Know the Novel Part Two: Within the WIP – A Writers Linkup

Oh, look at that, it’s Novemeber. And we are FOUR DAYS INTO NANOWRIMO WUT. Now that the writing has come into full swing, it’s time for Part 2 of the Know the Novel linkup!

If you missed it, for these last three months of the year, in honor of NaNoWriMo, I’m hosting a linkup geared toward sharing our awesome WIPs and the writing process with our followers.

Last month in Part One we introduced our novels and YOU GUYS. I was just drooling over all the beautiful novel ideas you people have. SO MUCH IMAGINATION. I was also sooo honored over all of you who joined in. We had over 30 people join the linkup! It was fabulous.

Now it’s time for Part Two!

Read on for all the info!

KNOW THE NOVEL

THE INFO

Know the Novel is a 3-part writers linkup series, one for each of these last three months of the year. I first created it last year and it went over really well. I’m so excited to be doing it again!

Each part will feature ten questions you can answer on your own blog (or anywhere else on social media, if you’d like!). The questions will be focusing on different parts of your novel and how the writing is going.

The linkups go as followed:

OCTOBER

  • Part One: Introduction – These questions were centered on you telling us about your novel and sharing allll the fun, juicy details. And did you ever! You can find everyone’s links HERE!

NOVEMBER

  • Part Two: Within the WIP – This month we’re gonna talk about the actual writing! Since, ya know, IT’S NANO. Writing is happening and it’s fabulous! This’ll be a fun way to update your followers on how the process is going (and if you’re still sane. Iamnot).

DECEMBER

  • Part Three: It Is Written – The month where we all take a deep breath (and a 29 hour nap) ‘cause NaNo is OVER. For the last part of the linkup, the questions focus on how the writing went and what your future plans for your drafted novel are! We’re gonna make it, guys!

To sum it up: For three months, I throw ten novel/writing-related questions your way, you can take the questions and answer them on your own blog, and then share your link in the linkup I’ll attach below so others can read about your delicious novel-y goodness!

QUICK NOTE: I am doing this during National Novel Writing Month season since, ya know, a lot of us are doing NaNo. BUT. You DO NOT have to be doing NaNoWriMo to participate. You can answer these questions for any WIP you have. It’s all just for fun and to help us share and encourage one another in all our writerly endeavors. And I just absolutely love seeing what my dear peeps are working on!

Now that we’re properly informed, onto the questions!

KNOW THE NOVEL PART TWO:
WITHIN THE WIP

I’d be honored if you used the graphic above for your own posts, but it’s certainly not required!

THE QUESTIONS

1. How’s the writing going overall?

2. What’s been the most fun aspect about writing this novel so far?

3. What do you think of your characters at this point? Who’s your favorite to write about?

4. Has your novel surprised you in any way?

5. Have you come across any problem areas?

6. What’s been your biggest victory with writing this novel at this point?

7. If you were transported into your novel and became any one of the characters, which one do you think you’d be? Would you take any different actions than they have?

8. Give us the first sentence or paragraph then 2 (or 3!) more favorite snippets!

9. Share an interesting tidbit about the writing process so far! (For example: Have you made any hilarious typos? Derailed from your outline? Killed off a character? Changed projects entirely? Anything you want to share!)

10. Take us on a tour of what a normal writing day for this novel looks like. Where do you write? What time of day? Alone or with others? Is a lot of coffee (or some other drink) consumed? Do you light candles? Play music? Get distracted by social media (*cough, cough*)? Tell all!

SHARE YOUR LINK

Now for the important bit, ADDING YOU LINK! Do be sure to use the widget below to link to your post so others can check it out!

Part Two of the linkup closes at midnight on November 30th (the end of NaNo!!!). I’ll be posting Part Three on the first Monday of December (the 2nd)!

I seriously cannot believe we are already four days into NaNo. This month is just gonna fly by! But oh my goodness, so far it is proving to be an utterly delightful NaNo.

I am loving my novel. Basically every single reaction Everly and Luka have leaves me grinning and giggling.

The writing hasn’t been too terribly difficult so far, because I already more or less knew what was going to happen for the first few chapters. But literally last night I hit as far as my mental plotting went. Today I am about to embark on endless sea of ???. SO. That’s going to be interesting. But I’m excited to see where this story takes me.

Next Monday I’ll have a full, proper writing update for you guys. But for now I’ll just say: it’s going great! Let’s hope it continues that way…

Me for literally the rest of NaNo. #halp

LET’S TALK!

OKAY, GUYS. How is everyone surviving the first few days of NaNo??? I want to hear it ALL. The good, the bad, EVERYTHING. And if you’re not doing NaNo, how are these delightful November days treating you so far?

These questions are all so interesting!!
I’ve just been hitting a stage where I feel unconfident about everything I write, but hopefully I get over it soon >_< I do ENJOY writing though. I just…have trouble convincing myself it's very good.
I'm so happy your writing is going well! That's awesome! And best of luck pantsing! (That's such a weird word. Who came up with that? Like, they thought of the concept of writing without an outline, and then they thought, "yeah, pantsing. That's a word with a logical connection to what it's describing.")

Aahh these questions look so fun! SO GLAD YOU’RE DOING THEEEESE! I may have to see if I can come up with a post for this sometime later this month. 😀

And the first few days of NaNo went super well for me! I’M EXCITED. *does a happy dance* And aaaahh you’re doing amazing! Good luck with figuring out what happens next–I’m in the same boat where I’m about to run out of plotted parts. *nervous laughter*

These questions look awesome! I’m gonna wait until probably about mid-month to write up my post so I have some meat behind all these potatoes.

Okay, so funny old me decided to cancel my NaNoWriMo this year because REASONS (that I explained on all my social media and my blog, lol). Instead I’m editing my former WIP and prepping for my next project, which I’m superexcited about because it’s *quiet shrieking* fairytale-style-fantasy (Sisters Grimm, Land of Stories, Ever After High, that sort of thing). But anyway *cough* so yeah, maybe I’ll do this linkup for the WIP I’m editing, lol.

YAYAYAYAY!!!

I REALLY LOVE these questions and CANNOT WAIT TO ANSWER THEM, Christine!!! 😀 And goooodness, congrats on your NaNo discoveries and accomplishments! You’re an awesome writer!!

I’m actually pretty excited for myself, since this is the fastest I’ve ever managed to write anything (currently at just over 14.6k), and this book is just tearing me to shreds and piecing me back together and making me love it so much and just AGHHHH!!! By far the most emotional thing I’ve ever written.

But regardless, you’re ingenious for coming up with this linkup, and I commend you! 😀

Wishing you continued success with your AMAZING novel, friend!! <3 <3

It’s so funny to see you talking about going into the unknown part of your story and not having a clue what’s coming next, because that’s just normal for me. XD

I can’t wait to do part 2! Despite not at all knowing what I’m doing with this story, it’s actually been going rather well. I think I broke my word count record for this point in the month, and just about everything I’ve written so far I actually LIKE. Minimal helpless flailing so far. XD
