Oh, look at that, it’s Novemeber. And we are FOUR DAYS INTO NANOWRIMO WUT. Now that the writing has come into full swing, it’s time for Part 2 of the Know the Novel linkup!
If you missed it, for these last three months of the year, in honor of NaNoWriMo, I’m hosting a linkup geared toward sharing our awesome WIPs and the writing process with our followers.
Last month in Part One we introduced our novels and YOU GUYS. I was just drooling over all the beautiful novel ideas you people have. SO MUCH IMAGINATION. I was also sooo honored over all of you who joined in. We had over 30 people join the linkup! It was fabulous.
Now it’s time for Part Two!
Read on for all the info!
KNOW THE NOVEL
THE INFO
Know the Novel is a 3-part writers linkup series, one for each of these last three months of the year. I first created it last year and it went over really well. I’m so excited to be doing it again!
Each part will feature ten questions you can answer on your own blog (or anywhere else on social media, if you’d like!). The questions will be focusing on different parts of your novel and how the writing is going.
The linkups go as followed:
OCTOBER
-
Part One: Introduction – These questions were centered on you telling us about your novel and sharing allll the fun, juicy details. And did you ever! You can find everyone’s links HERE!
NOVEMBER
-
Part Two: Within the WIP – This month we’re gonna talk about the actual writing! Since, ya know, IT’S NANO. Writing is happening and it’s fabulous! This’ll be a fun way to update your followers on how the process is going (and if you’re still sane. Iamnot).
DECEMBER
-
Part Three: It Is Written – The month where we all take a deep breath (and a 29 hour nap) ‘cause NaNo is OVER. For the last part of the linkup, the questions focus on how the writing went and what your future plans for your drafted novel are! We’re gonna make it, guys!
To sum it up: For three months, I throw ten novel/writing-related questions your way, you can take the questions and answer them on your own blog, and then share your link in the linkup I’ll attach below so others can read about your delicious novel-y goodness!
QUICK NOTE: I am doing this during National Novel Writing Month season since, ya know, a lot of us are doing NaNo. BUT. You DO NOT have to be doing NaNoWriMo to participate. You can answer these questions for any WIP you have. It’s all just for fun and to help us share and encourage one another in all our writerly endeavors. And I just absolutely love seeing what my dear peeps are working on!
Now that we’re properly informed, onto the questions!
KNOW THE NOVEL PART TWO:
WITHIN THE WIP
I’d be honored if you used the graphic above for your own posts, but it’s certainly not required!
THE QUESTIONS
1. How’s the writing going overall?
2. What’s been the most fun aspect about writing this novel so far?
3. What do you think of your characters at this point? Who’s your favorite to write about?
4. Has your novel surprised you in any way?
5. Have you come across any problem areas?
6. What’s been your biggest victory with writing this novel at this point?
7. If you were transported into your novel and became any one of the characters, which one do you think you’d be? Would you take any different actions than they have?
8. Give us the first sentence or paragraph then 2 (or 3!) more favorite snippets!
9. Share an interesting tidbit about the writing process so far! (For example: Have you made any hilarious typos? Derailed from your outline? Killed off a character? Changed projects entirely? Anything you want to share!)
10. Take us on a tour of what a normal writing day for this novel looks like. Where do you write? What time of day? Alone or with others? Is a lot of coffee (or some other drink) consumed? Do you light candles? Play music? Get distracted by social media (*cough, cough*)? Tell all!

Now for the important bit, ADDING YOU LINK! Do be sure to use the widget below to link to your post so others can check it out!
Part Two of the linkup closes at midnight on November 30th (the end of NaNo!!!). I’ll be posting Part Three on the first Monday of December (the 2nd)!
I seriously cannot believe we are already four days into NaNo. This month is just gonna fly by! But oh my goodness, so far it is proving to be an utterly delightful NaNo.
I am loving my novel. Basically every single reaction Everly and Luka have leaves me grinning and giggling.
The writing hasn’t been too terribly difficult so far, because I already more or less knew what was going to happen for the first few chapters. But literally last night I hit as far as my mental plotting went. Today I am about to embark on endless sea of ???. SO. That’s going to be interesting. But I’m excited to see where this story takes me.
Next Monday I’ll have a full, proper writing update for you guys. But for now I’ll just say: it’s going great! Let’s hope it continues that way…
Me for literally the rest of NaNo. #halp
LET’S TALK!
OKAY, GUYS. How is everyone surviving the first few days of NaNo??? I want to hear it ALL. The good, the bad, EVERYTHING. And if you’re not doing NaNo, how are these delightful November days treating you so far?
AGGGGHHHHHH I love these questions so much *screams* I can’t wait to get this blog post up! My progress has been great–I’m over 16k now *screams* and I just…I am a happy bean. A very happy bean. *flails and grins*
And you totally got this on the pantsing! Go, Christine *waves pom-poms* Can’t wait for that writing update!!!!!
*ALSO SCREAMS* I’m so happy you like the questions! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOUR ANSWERS AND HEAR ABOUT ALL THE THINGS. AND OH MY GOODNESS YOU’RE DOING SO AMAZING. I am happy YOU’RE happy! GO, FAITH!!!
Thank you! I have survived the pantsing thus far! We’ll hope it continues to go okay. XD
These questions are all so interesting!!
I’ve just been hitting a stage where I feel unconfident about everything I write, but hopefully I get over it soon >_< I do ENJOY writing though. I just…have trouble convincing myself it's very good.
I'm so happy your writing is going well! That's awesome! And best of luck pantsing! (That's such a weird word. Who came up with that? Like, they thought of the concept of writing without an outline, and then they thought, "yeah, pantsing. That's a word with a logical connection to what it's describing.")
I’m glad you think so! 😀
Awwww! I am so sorry to hear that, but boy do I feel ya. I’m pretty sure every single word I’ve written this week is traaaash. XD BUT. I keep reminding myself I can 100% fix absolutely everything once it’s done. But I CAN’T fix anything if there’s nothing there TO fix. First drafts are meant to be disasters. We gotta make a mess to make something beautiful! But also remember, we tend to think our writing is way worse than it actually is. Especially during the exhaustion that is NaNo! You may go back to it with fresh eyes and realize you have created some gems. So KEEP PUSHING ON! You got this, Becky! *HUGS*
Pantsing is definitely a ridiculous word. XD I guess that got it from “writing by the seat of your pants” BUT STILL. I feel like we could come up with something better. Lol.
Aahh these questions look so fun! SO GLAD YOU’RE DOING THEEEESE! I may have to see if I can come up with a post for this sometime later this month. 😀
And the first few days of NaNo went super well for me! I’M EXCITED. *does a happy dance* And aaaahh you’re doing amazing! Good luck with figuring out what happens next–I’m in the same boat where I’m about to run out of plotted parts. *nervous laughter*
NANOOOO! *throws confetti*
AWWWWW!!!! Seeing everyone’s excitement makes it all worth it. And I honestly LOVE doing these! It’s such a treat getting a peek into everyone’s awesome projects!
I AM SO HAPPY THE FIRST DAYS WENT WELL. And thank yooouuu!!! We are totally gonna survive this pantsing thing! *fistpump*
Oh my goodness, these questions are PERFECTION!!! Now if I can just get my word count for the day so I can blog… Aha. XD
Awwwww! So happy you think so! Cannot wait to hear more about how your NaNo is going! Hope you’re having a good November! <3
Those questions look super fun ^.^
REALLY really glad Nano is going super well for you!! 😀
It’s going pretty good for me I guess? Day 2 and 3 didn’t go well at all, but now I’m back on my feet XD!
Gl finishing Nano!! <3
Strike that, I just realized how behind I am xD
That makes me happy to hear! I always hope to ask questions you guys actually WANT to answer. Haha.
Awww, thank you!!! I do hope this first week has been good to you! Cheering you on!!! <3
Yayyyy!! All set to go on the 20th. 😉
Wow! You are so on top of things! Cannot wait to see your answers! Thanks for joining in! 😀
Yayyyy!!!! I can’t wait to answer all these questions!!! But first I want to get more writing done so I can answer them more accurately. So I’ll join the linkup later in the month.
Awwww! I’m happy you’re happy! 😀 And I’m doing the same. That’s why I keep it open all month, so everyone can answer the questions whenever they deem it the best time. ^_^ Cannot wait to read your answers!
These questions look awesome! I’m gonna wait until probably about mid-month to write up my post so I have some meat behind all these potatoes.
Awww, so glad you think so! And YES. Sounds like a plan! That’s what I’m gonna do too. Can’t wait to hear how your novel is going! 😀
Just submitted my link! I’m not doing NaNo, so I’m just talking about one of my WIPs that’s been abandoned for like a year😂
The first linker again! YAY! Thank you so much for joining in! Loved reading more about your novel!!!
Awe, thank you. And yeah, apparently I’m just really good at being the first linker lol. Maybe we’ll be three for three next time? 😉
YAYYYY I’m going to do Part Two around the middle of the month, just so I can pump up my excitement about it all over again. 😀
Okay, so funny old me decided to cancel my NaNoWriMo this year because REASONS (that I explained on all my social media and my blog, lol). Instead I’m editing my former WIP and prepping for my next project, which I’m superexcited about because it’s *quiet shrieking* fairytale-style-fantasy (Sisters Grimm, Land of Stories, Ever After High, that sort of thing). But anyway *cough* so yeah, maybe I’ll do this linkup for the WIP I’m editing, lol.
MERIE. I think it’s so, so admirable that you’ve chosen to wait and give your story the time and dedication it needs to be the best it can be, instead of forcing yourself to churn out something you’re not really feeling just for the sake of winning NaNo. I think every story deserves to be treated that way, and I’m so, so proud of you for making this decision!
AND OH MY GOODNESS FAIRY TALE FANTASY BOOK YESSSSS. I mean, you know that’s my favorite kind. ;D
Aaaahhhhh!!! This all sounds perfect! And I’d be thrilled for you to join the linkup for ANY story! Of course no pressure whatsoever. But it’s absolutely opened for any and all WIPs! ^_^
I hope you have a great rest of November! <3
So glad Nano is going good for you!
Thank you so much! <3
YAYAYAYAY!!!
I REALLY LOVE these questions and CANNOT WAIT TO ANSWER THEM, Christine!!! 😀 And goooodness, congrats on your NaNo discoveries and accomplishments! You’re an awesome writer!!
I’m actually pretty excited for myself, since this is the fastest I’ve ever managed to write anything (currently at just over 14.6k), and this book is just tearing me to shreds and piecing me back together and making me love it so much and just AGHHHH!!! By far the most emotional thing I’ve ever written.
But regardless, you’re ingenious for coming up with this linkup, and I commend you! 😀
Wishing you continued success with your AMAZING novel, friend!! <3 <3

AAAAAHHHHH HURRAY! I AM SO GLAD. I cannot wait to see your answers EEEEEEEE!!!! And oh my goodness, YOU ARE ROCKING IT. I can’t tell you how happy that makes me that you love your story so much. That is EVERYTHING. It makes all the insanity totally worth it. EEP. I CAN’T STOP SMILING!
Thank you so much, dear Lily! I hope the rest of your NaNo is AH-MAY-ZING!!! <3
It’s so funny to see you talking about going into the unknown part of your story and not having a clue what’s coming next, because that’s just normal for me. XD
I can’t wait to do part 2! Despite not at all knowing what I’m doing with this story, it’s actually been going rather well. I think I broke my word count record for this point in the month, and just about everything I’ve written so far I actually LIKE. Minimal helpless flailing so far. XD

Lololol! It did use to be 100% normal for me. Plotting was a complete foreign thing to my younger self. And, I have to say, I am really having fun pantsing again! It’s a little scary diving into the unknown, but an exciting scary!
I cannot wait for you to DO part 2! 😀 I need to hear about how Trentley and Jynnia are doing! <333 AND THAT IS SO FANTASTIC IT'S GOING WELL!!!! That just makes me so very happy! I do hope all the rest of the month goes just as wonderfully! <3
LOVE these questions, guuuuurl! Thanks again for hosting this linkup. It’s SO MUCH FUN, & certainly helps keep one motivated in their story. I can’t wait to tackle these questions!!!
I’m so glad! And oh my goodness, it is my pleasure! I LOVE doing it. It thrills me you guys enjoy it, because I certainly do! ^_^ Cannot wait to see your answers and hear more about how the writing is going!!! 😀
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT ABOUT THIS!!!!
*dashes off to write post*
It’ll be open all month, so you’ve got plenty of time! 😀
