Know the Novel: Introducing Dusk’s Broken Shadows {NaNo 2020}

NaNoWriMo starts in ONE. WEEK. And I’ve yet to tell you the first thing about what I’m actually writing for it. WELL. That’s why we’re here today!

I shall be joining in my own Know the Novel linkup (is that kind of narcistic? Or rather meta…) to tell you all about what shall be consuming my soul for the next month my upcoming WIP! ALSO. The linkup will continue to run until October 31st if you haven’t joined in yet! I have been absolutely soaking up everyone’s posts! You guys are going to be writing AH-MAY-ZING stories and it makes me so excited. This is gonna be such a great NaNo, guys. I can feel it!

So what shall I be writing anyway? That is quite the question! I’ve actually had this idea for months now, just itching to write it. But it’s been percolating, like, a LOT. It has quite exploded on me, and I ain’t complainin’ one little bit. I am so pumped for this novel. SO PUMPED.

Allow me to introduce…

DUSK’S BROKEN SHADOWS

Mock cover made by me.

1.) What first sparked the idea for this novel?

A dream, actually! (Don’t you just love it when dreams give you story ideas? Or maybe not because goodness knows we don’t need more plot bunnies. >.>)

Sometime all the way back in either late February or early March (all I know was it was right before quarantine when we blissfully thought 2020 was going to be a good year *sigh*), I had a dream involving BBC’s Merlin. When I woke up, the thing vividly stuck with me. (And not just because Merlin is my favorite show of all time, I promise. :P) It was this involved thing about broken friendships and betrayal and reunions and random stuff, and next thing I knew I had a boatload of inspiration.

The story idea has changed drastically from my first idea. There’s one element from the dream that will actually happen in my novel, but that’s pretty much it. It’s definitely become its own thing. This novel won’t even be medieval fantasy. But hey, I’m grateful to dream for sparking the idea anyway!

Literally ever since then, this story has been floating through my head. Like, for seven months it’s been in the forefront of my mind, growing and growing. There was no question about what to write for NaNo this year. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure if I could wait this long to start the story. I’m glad I have let the idea expand before jumping in though. But I am definitely excited I can FINALLY start it in just a few days! *screeches*

The other huge form of inspiration is the Kingdom Hearts games—only my favorite video game franchise in all the earth.

If I’m being honest, I feel like I’ve been subconsciously preparing to write this novel my entire life. It’s going to have SO MANY things I just adore, especially the Kingdom Hearts threads. See, I’ve been obsessing over the KH games since I was 10. EIGHTEEN YEARS, GUYS. I keep my obsession over it lowkey because I know a lot of you have never played these games (but if you have COME TALK TO ME). But yeah, they’ve been a huge part of my life for…a long, long time.

I’ve always wanted to write a story that has the same overall feel of the KH games, but nothing has ever quite struck me. Until now. As this idea began to grow and I was thinking about the setting and plot, I realized this was it. This was the story I’ve been wanting to tell for so, so long.

I’m just…I’m really excited about this one, guys.

2.) Share a blurb (or just an overall summary if you’d prefer)!

Goodness me. Trying to sum up this story is REALLY hard. Mainly because I barely know the plot???

“But you said this story has been percolating in your head for SEVEN MONTHS and you’ve been preparing to write it your whole life, Christine!” you’re probably thinking. Yes, yes, it’s true. But usually “percolating” just means characters, aesthetics, and vague, disjointed ideas have appeared. I mean, a plot? Pffft. That’s silly.

I’ve, erm, attempted to put together some form of a blurb for the sake of this post but it’s trash and probably makes no sense so bear with me:

The world is disappearing.

Don’t go near the Nothing. This is the first rule of Chethral. Parts of the world have disappeared from existence, leaving pure emptiness—Nothing. No one knows why the cracks in the world appear, or what the dangerous shadow creatures are who crawl out of them. The only hope of keeping the world whole are those born with the Sealing gift—people with special abilities to dance above the cracks and seal them back into place.

As a Watcher, it is Aelin’s job to protect Princess Dayana, a Sealer herself, as she dances the cracks back together. But for Aelin, it’s more than a job. Dayana is her best friend, and Aelin would do anything to protect her.

But one night, the world breaks completely, and winged people appear from the seams, come to take bits of the world and enslave the Sealers. It turns out the universe is far bigger than the people of Chethral ever believed.

Aelin, Dayana, and their friends are thrust across multiple worlds where they must fight the darkness if they’re ever going to be reunited and bring their world back together.

Yeesh. That makes me cringe. I really can’t write proper blurbs until the full story is written.

SO. This is, without a doubt, the hardest to explain story I’ve ever created. And not just because the overall plot eludes, but because it’s just weird and a very different brand of fantasy. Not sci-fi fantasy, definitely not medieval fantasy, just…WEIRD fantasy. Eheh. Like I said, it’s going to have a lot of stuff inspired by Kingdom Hearts, but also the Final Fantasy games, if you’ve ever played those? Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy are actually made by the same people and have a ton of similarities and I love them all. They’re such unique storyworlds and plots and I’m so excited to try my hand at something like them!

Random Kingdom Hearts gif featuring Sora, the love of my life.

If you’re not familiar with Final Fantasy, well, I’m sorry. I’m not sure how to explain this story…? IT’S GONNA BE A WILD ONE, GUYS. I’ll just leave it at that.

3.) Where does the story take place? What are some of your favorite aspects about the setting?

Where indeed? As the blurb said, there are multiple worlds, and I’m still not 100% sure how that’s all going to work so yay for being woefully unprepared!

I do have a good idea about the two main places we’ll see though.

1.) Chethral – Home world of the main crew. This is a fairly small world, as much of it has quite literally just disappeared and been swallowed into nothing.

The main place we see is the capital city: Dinas Serr, also referred to as the City of Stars. It’s called this because the castle and streets are made of this pure black material that, when set in darkness, a myriad of glowing dotted colors appear, looking like stars. So at nighttime the castle and streets look like the night sky.

To the south of the city is the Nothing. Literally a colorless wall of, well, nothing. Basically where the world ends. It’s a constant reminder of what could happen to the rest of the world if the Sealers don’t seal away the little cracks of Nothing that appear now and again throughout the land.

2.) Thexion– World of the winged people. Many of the main characters get stolen away to this world, for the winged people enslave Sealers in order to keep their world whole. Thexion is a massive affair, and the main place we see (that I’m aware of) is the grand, highly advanced city. And probably the less grand area below the city where the slaves are kept and forced to dance the cracks away.

Also I still need to give the race of the winged people an actual name. And the name of their home world is subject to change (it’s literally already changed 3 times as is heh). I’m struggling to think of something that sticks.

And I realize that is all very vague and probably makes no sense whatsoever. It doesn’t to me either, so you’re not alone. Ehehehe. Someone help me.

As far as my favorite aspects of the setting… I don’t even KNOW. I feel like I have so much to explore here. Since there are multiple worlds scattered about, there is an infinite amount of things to discover. I really like the idea of the worlds literally splitting apart and how each place has a completely different culture from the other. I guess I’m excited to explore all the strange places right along with the characters, because as of right now I’m as oblivious to what all will happen and what places they’ll land as they are. XD

4.) Tell us about your protagonist(s).

Finally a question I can properly answer! Whereas the plot and settings are still eluding me, I DO know my babies. Character plotting always comes first for me.

Firstly, this is going to be a Found Family sort of novel which is MY FAVORITE and my excitement knows no bounds. With that said, I actually have 5 main players. And I say it’s Found Family…but more like #SquadGoals since they’re all super close friends already, for the most part.

So let me introduce you to these dorks!

Aelin

ENFP | chaotic good | like, so chaotic | 5-year-old-in-a-candy-shop level of energy | scared she’s a waste of space | reckless | spirited | let’s be friends with EVERYBODY | feels before thoughts | adventurous | logic and routine are the enemy | dangerously curious | never give up | endearingly childlike | L O Y A L T Y

Prince Kezrin “Kez”

ISTP | 97.9% snark | I Don’t Care™ | actually cares a lot | Drama King | would jump off a cliff before talking about feelings | flirtatious | black is the only color that matters | STUBBORN | so stubborn | perfect hair at all times | competitive | always up for an adventure | probably needs a hug

Princess Dayana “Day”

INTJ | grace and poise and fancy dresses | no nonsense | doesn’t have time for stupidity | sure, the world is ending but we can still look good while it does | quick wit and dry sense of humor | meaningful conversations | solitude and books | coolheaded | never bats an eye | ethereal | determination | self doubt | my big brother and friends are all morons but they’re my morons

Tala

ISFJ | Mom Friend™ x100 | food will make everything better | healer | hates change | warmth and cookies | reliable | words of comfort | righteous anger | seriously don’t hurt her people | green and growing things | can we all please just calm down and hug it out

Rune

INFP | the resident Puppy Dog/Cinnamon Roll | shy and awkward and playful | must be protected at all cost | is actually the deadliest fighter in the group tho | would die for his friends | people pleaser | loves all the animals in the entire universe | curious and passionate | jester | sees the good in everyone | basically been married to Tala since they were 7 years old | yes it’s adorable

To say I’m excited to play with these disaster children is an understatement. Like I said, they’ve been flitting through my head for the majority of the year and are so, so ready to be on page.

5.) Who (or what) is the antagonist?

I would like to know that too… *cough, cough*

OKAY. I do have a vague idea. I think…? I believe for this book the main antagonists are going to be the king and queen of the winged people. But they’re actually a brother-sister duo, not a married couple. And they’re both going to be my oh-so favorite stylish, dramatic, sassmasters of villains. You know, devious, flirtatious, dressed to the hilt.

At least, that’s the idea I have now. I probably won’t know for sure until I officially meet them on page, so who even knows really…

But I also suspect there will be a LOT of different antagonists and we might not even meet the main main baddie in this first book (because yes, this is just book #1).

6.) What excites you the most about this novel?

What doesn’t excite me??? Like I said, I feel like I’ve been subconsciously preparing to write this novel my whole life. It’s just got such a huge blend of story elements I’ve always adored.

But to name a few…

1.) RELATIONSHIPS. I am so pumped for the different relationships in this book. Not only is it a Found Family sort of thing which you guys know am 900% about and basically live for, I also just adore how all the characters have different dynamics.

We’ve got deep female friendships and male friendships (Kez and Rune are total bros) and totally platonic male and female friendships. Lots of brother-sister things because Kezrin and Dayana are siblings. There’s a sweet, healthy romance between Rune and Tala because they have quite literally been dating since like the beginning of time and may as well be married. (Healthy romances FTW!) Buuut there will also be plenty of slowburn romantic tension between others as well *cough*Aelin&Kez*cough* Just…RELATIONSHIPS. EVERYWHERE. It’s gonna be great!

2.) WINGED PEOPLE. Random fact about me: I have this weird obsession with wings. I don’t know WHY but wings and feathers are just MY FAVORITE. So give me people with wings and I am alllllll the heart-eyes. The fact that I will have an entire culture of winged people to play with in this story makes me so ridiculously ecstatic. (Oh, and have I mentioned yet that the winged people have strange colored hair?? Being born with blue, purple, pink, orange, white, etc. hair is natural for them and that also excites me because I’m a weirdo.)

3.) BALLET. I’ve also always adored ballet, and though I didn’t take it myself, it’s something I’ve enjoyed watching all my life. It’s gonna make my ballet-loving heart happy incorporating it into the story. And not just that, making it MAGICAL. Because what’s better than ballet? MAGIC ballet!

4.) KINGDOM HEARTS/FINAL FANTASY THREADS. I know I’ve already mentioned it but I am just SO HAPPY to at last be writing a story that has a Final Fantasy-esque style to it. I’ve been wanting to for like over half my life and I’M FINALLY DOING IT.

7.) Is this going to be a series? standalone? something else?

As mentioned, this is only book #1 of a whole series! Because my stories can never be contained. *sigh*

The series title is Fragmented Worlds, and I’m actually hoping to keep it down to a trilogy. BUT at this point I have no idea how long it’s going to get. Hopefully not past 4 books, and 3 would be ideal, but who even knows with me… >.>

8.) Are you plotting? pantsing? plansting?

If you haven’t guess yet from all my vague, confused answers: Pansting!

Well, I guess sort of plantsing, because I have done quite a bit of character plotting and a smidge of worldbuilding (and by “smidge” I mean basically everything I shared about the world with you is all I know about it too so…yeah). But the plot? The plot is totally going to be pantsed.

See, when I was younger I was 100% a pantser. Never planned anything, just WROTE. Then when I started doing NaNo, I decided to outline my stories so I wouldn’t worry about writer’s block and could just type endlessly like a mad octopus. But…outlining started not feeling right to me. So last year, for the first time, I pantsed a NaNo novel. And…it ended up being the best first draft I’ve written in a long, long time???

After that I realized: I am a pantser. I always have been. I’ve just been forcing myself to be a planner these past few years. But my outlined stories always end up a little stale. It’s the ones I’ve pantsed that turn into my favorites. So I’m going back to my roots and letting my stories tell themselves. I think they come out so much better that way.

Although this particular story is so different and so big with way too many characters and tons and tons of plot threads. So…I may actually die trying to pants this whole thing in a single month, but by golly it’s gonna be a happy death!

9.) Name a few unique elements about this story.

Ah. Hmmm. WELL. This is kind of hard to answer since I’m still figuring out the plot. But, really, the whole story concept itself is (I think?) fairly unique. Or at least unique for ME. I’ve never written anything like this before.

The way I’ll handle the different worlds and transportation between them and how they can be broken apart is pretty unique I think. (And though yes, the initial inspiration for this came from Kingdom Hearts, it’ll still be very, very different.)

Annnnd the idea of magical dancing that literally heals these big cracks in the world and keeps the world from disappearing is certainly different.

There will also be a strange blend of modern and fantasy. Swords and makeup and technology and fantasy creatures and weird clothing and yeah. I don’t even know what all.

I have no idea what this novel even is guys help me.

10.) Share some fun “extras” of the story.

*rubs hands together in glee* I may not have a plot, but by golly I can provide when it comes to music and aesthetics!

AESTHETICS

starlit nights | friendship | cracked skies | wings and feathers | betrayal | broken seams | emptiness | loyalty | shadows | falling worlds | black oceans | great cities | determination | blistered dancing | swirling universes | flames | shattered mirrors | light and darkness

  • PINTEREST BOARD So this has turned into my biggest storyboard I’ve ever created on Pinterest. I’ve been constantly working on this thing for months. #noregrets It’s also the first storyboard I’ve made where the main characters get their own sections and aesthetics and everything! Which I LOVE and now I kind of want to go to all my other storyboards and give them character sections as well…

  • PLAYLIST This is also the biggest story playlist I’ve made. By a long shot! And almost the entire thing is Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy music. Is anyone surprised??? But GUYS. If you’ve never listened to soundtracks from those games, your life is incomplete. The music from them is actually one of the biggest appeals to fans. Yoko Shimomura, who did the music for the KH games and a couple of FF ones, is QUEEN and if you want your life enhanced by 112% you will go listen to her stuff this very moment.

Well good gracious me, that was way more information than you ever needed. And yet I feel like I’ve told you literally nothing??? Just thrown a bunch of confusing nonsense at you. But, to be fair, that’s what this story is: a bunch of confusing nonsense. Hopefully it’ll form into some semblance of a cohesive story come NaNo…

But, confusion and insanity though this is, I feel like a puppy with a new toy. I mean, GUYS. I just cannot wait to play with this ridiculous thing! Squad goals and winged people and convoluted plots and Kingdom Hearts threads and multiple worlds and light and darkness and just EVERYTHING. Those are my things.

SO LET’S DO THIS!!!

OH. And don’t forget you can answer these questions on your own blog if you have a WIP you want to share (it doesn’t have to be a NaNo novel)! You can find details and the official linkup HERE. Thank you so much to everyone who has already joined! It’s been a highlight of my month reading about all your brilliant story ideas. Part 2 of the linkup will go live Monday, November 2nd!

Just a week left, guys! 2020 hasn’t exactly been the best, to put it lightly, but that’s no reason we can’t have a November filled with over-caffeinated, sleepless, keyboard-smashing epicness!

HAPPY WRITING!

LET’S TALK!

Share all your thoughts! What do you think of my monster child of a novel idea? Can you believe NaNo starts NEXT. WEEK??? (You’re welcome to take a moment to scream. I won’t judge.) If you haven’t yet, feel free to buddy me on the site HERE!

I WAS SCREAMING IN MY HEAD THE ENTIRE TIME I READ THIS POST.

I am… totally, completely, heads-over-heels in love with this already. The moment I read the blurb it CLICKED in me that it definitely felt like the kind of epic fantasy video game I would play because it boasts an irresistible storyline. THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THAT KIND OF INCREDIBLE STORYLINE. The entire concept of it… just… *mind explodes*

IT’S SO UNIQUE AND INTRIGUING!! (I feel like this NaNo must be the year of unique NaNo novels, at least from what I’ve seen around here! Maybe our shared covid experience did something?) But asdfghjkl, the idea of magical dancers sealing cracks of nothingness and all these different worlds and winged people did you say and. look. I’m a sucker for awesome worldbuilding. Nuff said.

THESE CHARACTERS. THEY SOUND ADORABLE. I love the found family trope and I loooove how individual these characters sound and THE RELATIONSHIPS AND FRIENDSHIPS AND *flails*

ONE DAY, CHRISTINE, one day this story had better become something so the world and I can read it 😍 (Please.)

Ahhh! This sounds so amazing!! Like, I love how you have the portals/cracks in the planet! So cool! And the dancing to mend the cracks? Awesome!

I love your mock cover too! So perfect!!

I mean, all of this sounds so good! I can’t wait to hear more about it!!

Oh WOW! I LOVE the whole aesthetic and plot hinting of this tale….so pretty….and beautiful….and so much POTENTIAL. (Also, I love the character descriptions….XDDD)

Okay. But you have to publish this. You aren’t allowed to just squirrel this away and pretend it never existed after NaNoWriMo. I NEED to read this, Christine! Found Family is a thing I will die for. It’s literally my favorite trope. I’m exploding, exploding, EXPLODING!!! But I’m okay. I think. Just super EXCITED! *squeezes your book and characters* As a fellow pantser, I get the struggle about trying to churn out a blurb before the book is written. My thoughts are a whirl and words are not my friend. Until it’s finished and it hangs like a burnished orb in the heaven, flinging rays of light for all to see. Ahem…. getting carried away there. One of these days, I’d love to meet you and also to have a writing session with you. You just have so much raw energy and talent. *HUGS!*

I love the blurb! Makes me excited to see how your WIP turns out! So much worldbuilding already and I love writing Relationships and reading bromances!

All I can say is I NEED THIS BOOK………LIKE NOW!!!!!!!! I LOVE the idea, the characters, the bit of world/plotish thing you told us. The whole time I was reading I was like, okay, Christine, the most important question is when can I GET THIS BOOK. I kind of had my own version of NaNo this month, as I made myself do a ton of writing. But I don’t normally do NaNo.

Also, I love all of your enthusiasm!

THIS SOUNDS SO COOL!

Dream-sparked story ideas are the best! I have one of those percolating right now, actually. And in real life, I think it’s normal to take just one element from a dream to add to the story…because dreams are weeeeiiiiirrrrdddd.

Blurbs are hard, don’t worry! But wow, just from the blurb it sounds so amazing.

I am also an INTJ, and relating SO hard to Princess Dayana’s bio (literally–it me. Kind of scary). Except for the dresses, because apparently I am that rare creature, an INTJ who doesn’t care what she wears, and would wear the same thing every single day if I could. XD

Also, Rune sounds like MY FAVORITE! Argh, I already love him so much.

PEOPLE WITH WINGS YESSSSSSS. Wings are amazing. And seriously–magical ballet? What? Amazing.

I totally related to your pantser/plotter situation–I am definitely a pantser, but it’s taken me aaaaaaggges to discover that I’m a bullet-point pantser. Writing with literally NO idea where I’m going is scary, but writing with a super bare-bones “this is probably going to happen at some point” list is…marginally less scary. I have one story right now which I plotted out, and while I love the idea…I may have killed it. We’ll see–I’m letting it sit.

So excited to hear more about this story!

ASDGHJKDAHFDHJAKLFHDAKL!!!!!! <3333333333 OHMYGOSH!!! WHEN CAN I READ THIS AWESOMENESS??? *polite grabby hands*

*takes deep breath* Okay, I shall try to talk comprehensibly now.

A KINGDOM HEARTS INSPIRED STORY!? The very thing I've needed in my life since forever! I've been trying to figure out my own KH inspired story for the longest time but it's still not cooperating. SO SO HAPPY YOU'RE WRITING ONE!!! That cover is GORGEOUS AND I LOVE THE TITLE!!! I also LOVE that your idea came from a dream!

NOOOOOO!!! That blurb is NOT trash, no way no how!!! That blurb is pure amazing awesomeness and literally made me squeal and left me jaw-dropped in awe! *Cue Vanellape von Sweet* I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT! I can totally see the KH inspiredness (that's not a word but I don't care) and it is awesome!!! It's kind of like Chethral is Daybreak Town before the first Keyblade War.

(Unfortunately I haven't played any Final Fantasy but I want to SO BAD!)

SORAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I LOVE THAT GIF!

Chethral and Thexion sound AMAZING! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE what the streets and castle do at night, that is so, so beautiful! Your imagination is awesome!!!

FOUND FAMILIES RULE!!! I love Aelin already and that description and those pictures are so amazing! OHMYGOSH! Kez is one of my favourite types of characters! I LOVE the tough boys who actually just need a hug and who are full of snark and drama and are always paying attention to how they look. Day sounds absolutely amazing! "[Brother and friends] are all morons but they're my morons" I LOVE IT! She reminds me of a combination of Nat and Wanda from Marvel. Tala sounds so precious yet abke to go full mama bear if need be. OH MY GOODNESS, before I read Rune's full description I was thinking it would be cute if he and Tala were a thing AND THEY ARE!!!! I love that he's a Puppy Dog/Cinnamon Role who must be protected at all costs yet is also the best fighter, such an awesome combination! I just love all of them! *huggles them away from danger ;p*

OOOH! Is this going to be like a Xehanort reveal? (You don't have to answer that because spoilers) He wasn't even really intoduced until after KH2. A BROTHER AND SISTER SASSMASTER DUO?! I likey very muchey, please gimme! *puppy dog eyes and grabby hands*

AAAHHH! Those relationships sound THE BEST! YAS! Healthy romances FTW!!! Platonic friendships! We need more of these!!! Oh my gosh, the bubbly girl with the moody boy! Aelin and Kez are going to be so cute!

I obsess over wings too! That is so cool the winged people have different coloured hair like that!!! Everything about this story is so awesome!

Magic ballet is such an amazing idea!

Yes yes yes to all the KH/FF threads!!!

A trilogy would be epic! (But I'm kind of lowkey hoping you do more I am that much in love with this story already, though you totally don't have to do any more than you want. ^_^)

*snickers* I'll play KH and FF music at your writer's funeral if you want. ;p But seriously, I'm glad you're finding the best way to write for you! I'm still trying to find mine.

YES TO ALL OF THAT! I've never heard of anything like this story so it is completely unique and I love all of it! (You could call the genre "Christine Fantasy" since all of this is unique and totally you! <333)

THAT AESTHETIC!!!!!! *all the heart eyes* ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

Wow! Your boards are so so pretty!!! I love all of it! You did such a good job putting it together! <333

The music is one of the best parts of KH! Oh! Have you heard about the songs Liz (I forgot her last name) does where she takes the theme songs of the characters and writes lyrics to them? They are so beautiful and perfectly fit the character.

NO NO NO! That wasn't too much information, you told us so much amazingness and I want to know more!!!

You are awesome! This story is awesome! If you couldn't tell by the long, rambling, all-capsing comment I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS STORY AND IT IS EPIC AND AMAZING AND AWESOME!!! <333

NOW I’M THE ONE GRINNING SO HARD! (I probably look like Ches and am freaking my family out as I maniacally grin at my phone!)

SUCH EPIC TIMING!!! I will always be there to squeal about KH with you and I’m definitely gonna cheerlead you while you write this book!!! Awww! Thank you! I hope so too! ^_^

Ooh! If FF X is your favourite one then I’ll definitely have to look into that one first! (I don’t really know a whole lot about them though, so are they in any sort of chronological order from what you’ve seen?)

I feel you so hard on just spending lots of time watching gifs of them! How can we not want to spend more time with these precious babies! <3

I can't wait to learn more about these amazing charries!!!

Well knowing you, whenever you do figure out the main baddie he/she/it/whatever is going to be AWESOME AND AMAZING!!!

Twinzy! Wings are so pretty! When I was little and played pretend I always had wings. 🙂 I look forward to leaning more about your winged people!

The more Christine books the better, no matter what series they're in! (I'm basing that on just how good the short stories on your blog are, you are an amazingly talented writer!) <333

XDD I think it would be rather ironically fitting to play the selection you have as your WIP soundtrack! XD

I am mostly pantsing "More Than A Dream" because my story has decided that there is far more going on than just the Balls, political intrigue and murder to be exact. Thank you for your sweet encouraging words!!! <333

Yes!!! Riku's, Terra's, Namine's and Xion's all tie for top favourite but honestly I love them all and can't really pick! (I just wish there was an Axel/Lea one cause that would be cool!) I found her name; Lizz Robinette.

^_^ ^<^ I'm so happy I could encourage you! Don't ever stop writing! The world needs you and your stories!!! <333

YES WRITE THIS BOOK AND THEN PUBLISH IT.😍 The way you described everything… everyone… it all felt REAL and LEGIT to me. I don’t think you’ll be wondering about the plot for long. It’s so there, even if you can’t see what it is just yet. I can feel it. 🤗

I am doing Nano for the first time ever (but that’s not something I’m sharing with many people), and I’m not taking it too seriously. I’m just writing the story because I want to, not because I HAVE to finish it in one month (or ever, really). I will not give out any details about it unless it comes to a satisfactory conclusion, so please don’t ask. 😜

I cannot wait to hear more about your story!!!!! 😀

Thank you so much!! Yes, a month feels like such a tiny amount of time to write 50k. o.o YIKES. But I know you’ll do awesome.

Thank you again! <3 *sends you pumpkin muffins*

I forgot to mention that Aelin sounds exactly like myself as a book character. I’m not kidding. ENFP, all of it… and she even kind of looks like me! XD

ENFP characters are pretty fun, but I might be biased. XD Thanks! <33

This sounds amazing! I love familial relationships, especially villainous ones. I really love relationship-driven fantasy stories (but not necessarily romantic relationship-driven, you know what I mean? Basically, give me allll the platonic relationships.)

I’m currently watching a show with a winged hero! What are the odds. It’s a fun show, if a bit silly. The hero has spat out blood more times than I can count by now.

You mention Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy? I’m in. Man I wish I joined in this link-up this month, but I won’t be able to jump in until December because I’ve packed November with blog posts haha. Happy writing!

Ahhhhhh, Christine, your story sounds absolutely amazing. And it’s such a unique idea. I had SO MANY THOUGHTS while reading this post, but because I have an absolutely terrible memory I’ve kind of already forgotten most of them. I love stories focused on relationships, which is probably why this story sounds so intriguing to me. And FOUND FAMILIES. *screams* AND SLOW BURN, OH MY GOSH. AND YOUR CHARACTERS SOUND SO FREAKING AMAZING, OMW. I’ve always had a strange obsession with wings, toooooo. Winged people are the best. I am 1000% a pantster. I don’t even try to be. My stories just work out best when I don’t plan them all out. Xd.
This was such a fun post to read. I’ll have to see if I’ll be able to do it.
P.S. I don’t know if you do tags, but I’ve nominated you for the 30 song tag and you can do that if you want to.

THIS SOUNDS SO EPIC!!! WINGED PEOPLE. 😀 😀 😀 My nano has winged people too!

Ahhh, there are so many things that I love about this story!!
Ballet, fantasy and modern is an awesome mix! Modern things in fantasy should be done more. It sounds like such an awesome and fun thing to do. Plus it breaks through the usual fantasy types. Yes, those are cool too, but unusual fantasy types is just amazing! (Yes, the fact that is a weird fantasy is so appealing to me.)
I love your characters. They sound so awesome! (You have no idea how excited I got when I read that small line about slowburn romance with Aelin and Kez!) Also that is so nice and cute that Tala And Rune are made for each other since basically forever. I can imagine that relationship is so adorable. Also platonic relationships! Deep female friendships AND male friendships? That’s just the best. Plus sibling vibe. <3 Seriously, the relationships in this are making *heart-eyes* with me.
The winged people have natural weird hair? That’s so cool! And yess, winged people are just awesome.
Your aesthtics is so cool. I loved staring at it.
Last note: I fully support your path for the antagonists. They sound just the bessttt.

CHRISTINE IF YOU DON’T PUBLISH THIS I WILL DIE. Seriously. This is like the best WIP I have ever read about!!! The entire time I was reading this I was hyperventilating/jumping-in-my-seat/exploding with excitement! How do you think of such awesome ideas?!?!?! This is just so OUT OF THIS WORLD EPIC and alskjfiefhasdf I don’t even know what to say. (Actually I do or else I wouldn’t be writing this but ANYWAY…XP).

I NEED THOSE CHARACTERS!!! Especially RUUNNNE! I’m an INFP and related with basically everything on his list. Animals seriously are the best thing ever. Well, most of them. Like the cute ones. Not spiders. #MajorArachnophobia. And Kez?!?! Hehe…I love him already. The ones who use snark and drama as a façade to cover their inner teddy bear are the bomb.com.

Man, I’m sooo stoked to see where you take this Christine! The whole plot, the characters, and the setting is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. I can totally see how it was inspired by a dream, but those are always the COOLEST stories! You’re going to nail this one even if it’s a little daunting right now! Best wishes on NaNo and I’ll be praying that God gives you the right words you need for your story this month! 😀

Awww!!! Your response literally made my day! *hugs you back* You have no idea how special it is for me to get a comment back like that (especially from someone who is like one of my top three favorite bloggers :D) I’ve been keeping up with your blog for about a year, but my parents just started letting me comment/follow/subscribe to blogs recently, so getting to “chat” with bloggers like you is the best!

Oh, yes, from what I could tell, you’ve described INFPs to the T! Curious? Passionate? Sees the good in everyone? Yep, yep, and yep again! XD Everyone has their own little quirks of course, but I can’t wait to see where you take your characters! (BTW I won’t really die if you don’t publish it, but I would love to see some snippets once you’ve gotten more written!)

Anytime! I love praying for people and seeing where God takes it from there! So if there’s anything specific concerning your writing or life in general, just let me know! (Only if you want to though!)

OH MY GOODNESS. Christine!!!! This is literally the most AMAZING concept for a novel I have heard in a long, LONG time!!! I…am honestly quite speechless. If this were on the shelf in Barnes and Noble, I would have picked it up immediately. Unfortunately it’s not even WRITTEN yet, but alas. This is what NaNo is for, yes? XD

I am just so in love with this storyworld already!!!! As soon as you mentioned the Nothing, I was hooked. Instantly. I knew in that moment that I was doomed to fall in love with this book. XD BUT. BUT BUT BUT. YOU HAVE *WINGED PEOPLE*. WINGED. PEOPLE. MY DEAR CHRISTINE. HAVE I MENTIONED HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS BOOK???????? And that blurb!!! It was actually quite incredible? Much better than any blurb I try to come up with for my novels. XD

And the pinterest board and the aesthetics and the CHARACTERS and oh my goodness just all of it together… I am so impossibly excited to hear more about this story in the coming months!! Also I’ve unfortunately never played Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy, but I HAVE heard of them, and clearly I must play these games now…..

EEP! This is just getting me so so excited for NaNo… I can’t wait to participate in this lovely linkup!! The bestest of luck to you this next month, Christine!! I can’t wait to NaNo with you!!! <333

So, um, this story has some REALLY intriguing inspiration! (Never played KH, but I’m vaguely familiar with the name?)

Ah, yes, the distinction between “stories that have been building our entire lives” and “an actual, intelligent articulation”. Because I FEEL that! Sometimes you just have a vague yet oddly clear vision of what the story IS, just not how to describe it. ‘Tis strange. But yeah, I totally relate!

Aaaaaand I’m nonetheless intrigued by the blurb! But I understand not fully articulating the story vision yet. Been there myself quite a few times!

Weird fantasy is cool. 🙂 I’d say 100 Cupboards fits into that category, and I found it intriguing!

Okay, so those settings are MADE OF INTRIGUING!! So intriguing that my ability to use proper grammar just fled, but seriously, a city that looks like it’s dotted in stars? A nothingness that like the weird fantasy equivalent of a dangerous, rundown neighborhood that could start to affect your home? WOW.

Ooooh, these characters sound so fun and precious!! Quite the mix of personality types too!

This was so much fun to read, and now I’m totally inspired to go work on/post about my own NaNo project! Cause yeah, I’m going to try to participate this year, and if I have to drop down to 25K or less or drop out entirely, that’s okay. I at least want to start! Also, this story sounds just…alive, if that makes any sense. I can definitely see you being able to pull this all together in a coherent, unified vision (eventually), and it’s very, very unique. And full of passion! Thank you so much for sharing all this!

Reading about the characters I was thinking, “Where’s the INFP?” and then when I read about Rune I thought, “There he is!” 😀 This whole story sounds AMAZING BEYOND WORDS. EEEEEEEPPP! Have fun with this for NaNo!

Ooh, I love your mockup cover! Isn’t it great when you get inspiration from dreams?? Even when most of the actual dream doesn’t end up in the story. One of my books I’ve drafted was inspired by a dream that involved Wolverine from X-Men…needless to say, he didn’t make it in to the actual draft.
Your definition of a story “percolating” is incredibly accurate. We’ve been thinking about it for months! We have characters! Aesthetics! Random situations/lines of dialogue/moments that are going to happen at some point! But plot? …What is this plot you speak of?
Ooh, the City of Stars sounds gorgeous. And your blurb! I love that they have to dance over the cracks to seal them.
“I Don’t Care l actually cares a lot” I love those kinds of characters 🙂 “Sure the world is ending, but we can still look good while it does” XD
AHHHH SIBLINGS THERE ARE SIBLINGS. I’m so here for sibling relationships. And strong friendships! And healthy romantic relationships!
Basically everthing about this sounds amazing. I wish you the best of luck with Nano!!

And this novel idea sounds really fascinating and unique. I wish you the best of luck during NaNo! Happy Writing! 🙂

AHHHHHH!!! *deep breath* LAURIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! When I saw the mock cover, I just KNEW I’d adore this (although every single one of your stories I’ve always adored)—but it has BALLET!!!!!! Though I’m in no way an expert, it was one of my (& still kinda is) passions during my teen/early 20s years. I can’t Wait To see how you incorporate this! And while I’ve never played KH or FF, I’ve always loved the storylines & characters (Cloud was one of my faves *heart eyes // cue SQUEE*

GURRRL. This sounds beyond amazing! And regardless whether you’ve got it all figured out or not, it’s gonna be even more so by the time you’ve finished. Love, love, LOVE all the elements you’re adding in (I ADORE the Found Family stories—the Lunar Chronicles comes to mind— and the fresh & healthy relationships!!! YESSSSSSS.)

YOU’VE GOT THIS. Best wishes to you this nano, dear girl!! <333

EEP. CHRISTINE. THIS SOUNDS LIKE SO MUCH FUN. I haven’t played Kingdom Hearts (I kind of want to though!), but from what I’ve seen of it I believe I can see the inspiration behind this story! The setting, the atmosphere- everything sounds so cool and unique!

Aelin sounds so cute. And Rune. And I just… really want to know all these characters personally??

OOH YAY I wasn’t the only one who had no idea who her antagonist was. XD I think I know now, but I literally had to start writing the book to find out. Lol. And WHAT a brother-sister king-queen duo?? I love that so much! :O

Ahh, yes, welcome (back) to the pantser side. It’s a boatload of chaotic fun. XD I’m pantsing so hard this time around it scares me.

Also those AESTHETICCCS. I LOVES. *heart eyes forever*

This sounds so amazing, Christine!! Best of luck with NaNo! <33

*SCREECHES*

I AM IN LOVE. THE IDEA. THE AESTHETIC.

THE C H A R A C T E R S.

AHHHHHHH~!!!! I can 110% see how this a story you’ve been unconsciously prepping for all your life, because it screams “Christine.” And I love it so much!

And it’s so fun and unique how it has that videogame feel to it. Because I’ve kind of always wanted to find the perfect story-based fantasy videogame to play (something relatively easy though, lol, because my gaming skills are abysmal)… so skipping the gameplay part and just getting a NOVEL makes me excited. XD

Eeeep, I hope the inspiration keeps on flowing all month long! This sounds incredible! 😀
