Know the Novel – Part Two: Within the WIP {A Writers Linkup}

IT IS OFFICIALLY NANOWRIMO! And being as how we’ve made it to November, it is time for part 2 of Know the Novel!

Yes indeedy, we are here in the month of writerly insanity. I hope you’re all well stocked on caffeine and candy. We’ve got a wild month of writing ahead of us!

If you missed it, last month I opened up my yearly 3-part writers linkup, Know the Novel, where we get to talk all about our current novels! In October for Part 1 you guys introduced your WIPs and GUYS. Guuuyyyys! So much creativity! Can everyone just get published NOW because I neeeed these stories in my life.

Of course…it may be awkward to publish now since, ya know, we’re all still writing these novels. But that’s why we’re here today! To talk all about how the writing is going!

Read on for all the info! (Or just scroll straight to the questions if you know what’s going on and want to get back to writing your delicious novel. I won’t judge.)

KNOW THE NOVEL

WHAT IS KNOW THE NOVEL?

Know the Novel is a 3-part writers linkup series, one for each of these last three months of the year. Each part will feature ten questions you can answer on your own blog (or anywhere else on social media, if you’d like!). The questions will be focusing on different parts of your novel and how the writing is going.

The linkups go as followed:

OCTOBER

  • Part One: Introduction – As I said, last month you guys introduced your DELICIOUS WIPs and it was such a grand time seeing what everyone has cooking up. You can find everyone’s links HERE!

NOVEMBER

  • Part Two: Within the WIP – For this month we’re going to be discussing how the actual writing is going! Because writing is most certainly happening! (And so is coffee consumption, if you’re anything like me.) With the questions below you’ll get to update your readers at any point this month on how the book is coming along, share snippets, and tell us your overall sanity levels! (LOL. There is no sanity. All sanity is gone. There is only caffeine and words.)

DECEMBER

  • Part Three: It Is WrittenIn a month we will all be taking a deep breath and celebrating that fact that WE WROTE WORDS. So this month’s questions will be all about how the overall writing went and what your next step will be!

In Summary…

For three months, I’ll throw ten novel/writing-related questions your way, you can take the questions and answer them on your own blog, and then share your link in the linkup I’ll attach below so others can read about your delicious novel-y goodness!

QUICK NOTE: I am doing this during National Novel Writing Month season since, ya know, a lot of us are doing NaNo. BUT. You DO NOT have to be participating in NaNoWriMo to join the linkup! You can answer these questions for any WIP you have. It’s all just for fun and to help us share and encourage one another in all our writerly endeavors. I adore seeing what all my fellow writers are cooking up, so whether you’re doing NaNo or not, please do take the questions if you want and answer them for any WIP you have!

HERE WE GO! Everything you need for Part Two!

KNOW THE NOVEL PART TWO: WITHIN THE WIP

I’d be honored if you used this graphic or the banner at the top of this post for your posts, but it’s certainly not required!

THE QUESTIONS

1. How’s the writing going overall?

2. What’s been the most fun aspect about writing this novel so far?

3. What do you think of your characters at this point? Who’s your favorite to write about?

4. Has your novel surprised you in any way?

5. Have you come across any problem areas?

6. What’s been your biggest victory with writing this novel at this point?

7. If you were transported into your novel and became any one of the characters, which one do you think you’d be? Would you take any different actions than they have?

8. Give us the first sentence or paragraph then 2 (or 3!) more favorite snippets!

9. Share an interesting tidbit about the writing process so far! (For example: Have you made any hilarious typos? Derailed from your outline? Killed off a character? Changed projects entirely? Anything you want to share!)

10. Take us on a tour of what a normal writing day for this novel looks like. Where do you write? What time of day? Alone or with others? Is a lot of coffee (or some other drink) consumed? Do you light candles? Play music? Get distracted by social media (*cough, cough*)? Tell all!

SHARE YOUR LINK

Now for the important bit: ADDING YOUR LINK!

Once your post is published, share the URL in the linkup widget below so we can all read about your fantabulous WIP!

Part 2 of the linkup ends at midnight on November 30th. Part 3 is coming atcha at the beginning of December!

I seriously cannot believe we’ve made it to November! The smell of coffee, the crisp air, and the tap tap tapping of writers all over the world pouring their imagination and creativity into words—it is truly my favorite time of year!

Let’s make it a good one!

LET’S TALK!

SERIOUS TALK. How are you??? Have you survived the first day of NaNo? Are you excited we’ve made it to November? How many cups of coffee have you already had? And if you’re not doing NaNo (you sane, wise person), are you excited it’s November?

I’ve been doing okay. I’m SUPER glad it’s November. October was really crazy for me. That’s why I didn’t come close to finishing up writing my WIP like I had planned. So, now I’ve got November to do that. Basically even though I’m not doing NaNo, it’s gonna look a lot like someone who is. I’m either gonna get part two up tonight or tomorrow (probably this afternoon). The questions look soooo exciting, I CAN’T WAIT to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How have you been?

So excited to see people answer these questions! I’m not doing NaNo, but I am excited that November is here! That much closer to winter break. School is killing me. XD

My sister decided on November 1 that she was going to try out doing NaNo for a week, and then decide if she’ll keep going…which should be really entertaining for me!

Now I really wished I had done the first part so that I could do this one. My goodness I wish I could do both. Especially since my writing is going super well, and I’m more confident about it and want to share what it is. But I told myself and my blog-followers I’d wait ’till December to give out details, sooo… *sadness*

Hope your Nano is going AWESOME! Mine has been really good so far as I said; trying not to have coffee every day and limiting to maybe two cups a week. I had a cup of pumpkin spice coffee while I began yesterday, to celebrate. Maybe I’ll have another about the middle of the week. XD

Could I use the questions the first week of December(crediting you and your linkup, of course)?

Thank you so much! I look forward to answering the questions. I’m not normally a coffee drinker anyway, but I’ve fallen in love with the Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice k-cups and since they’re limited edition I want to save them so they can stick around as long as possible. If they weren’t limited… I might have a cup a day. They’re so delicious with cream and sugar. 😛

Eeeeeee!!!! I’m sooo excited to do this part! I think I’ll do it around mid-month so I have more information on my progress. I absolutely CANNOT wait to read about yours!!! And everyone else’s!!!

So far so good! I’m up to 5,000 words and I’ve only had a total of three cups of coffee so I think I’m doing okay. I always drink a cup or two over the weekend plus there was that coffee to give me a boost at midnight the first day. I shamefully haven’t been able to get a writing session in yet, so… I’m not going to allow myself my usual time on the internet that way I can go write.

How are you doing? Are your characters behaving or are they already pulling hijinks and shenanigans?

I’m grinning so hard with excitement I think my cheeks are going to seize up! XDDD

Haha! I, um drank a few more cups since then. I guess coffee is our life’s blood now. XD

AAAAHHH!!!! So, so happy for you!!! Hehe, misbehaving characters are such fun, aren’t they? You never know what they’re going to do next! I’m so glad you’re having such a great time!!! ^_^

Oh, YES!!!! I actually just went through the first season of the mandalorian this past week, because I’m soooo behind. But that means I don’t have to wait long to know what happens next!

Right!?! The fall seasons give me all the feels! <3

Girl, you’ve got this! Pretty soon you’re going to be hypnotized by Baby Yoda’s (or if you want to get technical, the Child’s) eyes and adorableness that you won’t even remember the insanity of November! 😉

WHOOO PART TWO! *jitters with excitement* *and too much caffeine* *and too little sleep*

I did, indeed, survive day one of NaNo! I wrote 5k and had a LOVELY start to the month. I am SO enjoying being back with these characters. <3 And yes, I am indeed stocked up on caffeine and candy. Dark chocolate, specifically. Although I have consumed a frightful amount of my stash already. xD

Best of luck this month! (Although we’re a week in now and I already know you are KILLING it so YOU GO GIRL <3)
