I cannot believe we are here in November. It is the month of writing, and if you’re diving deep into the rush of story creating, this tag is for you!
Welcome back for Part 2 of the Know the Novel tag, writers! You may be just gearing up to start your story today or have been at it for a while (we’re halfway through FicFrenzy, I can hardly believe it!) or are taking a calmer approach and writing in your own time. But whatever your November looks like, I hope you’re allowing some time to honor your dream and give your incredible WIP some much-deserved love. Your stories are worth telling, friend.
And it’s extra fun to tell them when we have others cheering us on! So let’s also take some time this month to draw back the curtains and invite others to take a little peek at the writing life.
KNOW THE NOVEL
What is Know the Novel?
Know the Novel is a 3-part tag for writers, one for each of these last three months of the year. Each part features ten questions you can answer on your own blog (or anywhere else on social media!). The questions focus on different parts of your novel and how the writing is progressing.
The tags go as follows:
OCTOBER
- Part One: Introduce Your WIP – October gave everyone a chance to introduce their current/upcoming WIP—the premise, the characters, all the exciting overall things! Thank you so much to all who participated. You can find everyone’s links HERE!
SIDE NOTE: Just because the official linkup is closed, doesn’t mean you can’t still use these questions! They’re free for the taking ANY time. A link back to my blog would be much appreciated, but otherwise use them however you’d like!
NOVEMBER
- Part Two: Within the WIP – For this month’s tag, we’re taking a peek at how the writing itself is going! Scroll down to find all the questions. These questions will be open all month, so feel free to take them to answer on your own blog or other social media platform at any time.
DECEMBER
- Part Three: Words Written – Next month words will be written. This final part of the linkup focuses on how the process went, the ups and downs of writing said novel, and a glimpse at what’s next.
In Summary…
For each month I throw ten writing-related questions your way, you can take the questions and answer them on your social media platform of choice, and then share your link in the linkup I’ll attach below so others can read about your awesome WIP. Easy and fun for all!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This linkup is open to any WIPs you have. Whether you’re doing a writing challenge or writing within your own time, it matters not! The point here is to just have fun and get a chance to share your ideas with others. And you definitely do not have to do all three of the tags. There are basically no rules here but to have fun!
KNOW THE NOVEL
PART TWO: WITHIN THE WIP
I’d be honored if you used this graphic for your posts, but it’s certainly not required!
THE QUESTIONS
1. How’s the writing going overall?
2. What’s been the most fun aspect of writing this novel so far?
3. What do you think of your characters at this point? Who’s your favorite to write about?
4. Has your novel surprised you in any way?
5. Have you come across any problem areas?
6. What’s been your biggest victory with writing this novel at this point?
7. If you were transported into your novel and became any one of the characters, which one do you think you’d be? Would you take any different actions than they have?
8. Give us the first sentence or paragraph then 2 (or 3!) more favorite snippets!
9. Share an interesting tidbit about the writing process so far! (For example: Have you made any hilarious typos? Derailed from your outline? Killed off a character? Changed projects entirely? Anything you want to share!)
10. Take us on a tour of what a normal writing day for this novel looks like. Where do you write? What time of day? Alone or with others? Is a lot of coffee (or some other drink) consumed? Do you light candles? Play music? Get distracted by social media (*cough, cough*)? Tell all!
SHARE YOUR LINK
Once your post is live, you are welcome to share the URL in the linkup widget below so we can all read your post!
Part 2 of the linkup ends at midnight on November 30th. Part 3 will be up at the beginning of December!
Stories are one of the most powerful things on this earth. They have impacted people since the beginning of time. I know writing is discouraging, I know it’s tiring, I know it’s vulnerable and just downright hard, but it is worth it, writer.
Because it’s also cathartic. It’s beautiful. It’s thrilling seeing the things in our heads form into words. Seeing people, places, events, themes, come to life on the page. It’s powerful and magic and an incredible experience.
I hope you don’t let the hard days and discouragement hold you back. Telling stories is a privilege and a worthy pursuit. And the world needs the creativity only you can offer it.
Let’s create, friends!
What will November look like for you? Are you joining in a writing event or just soaking up the fall days? I’d love to hear about it! And if you join the tag, don’t forget to add your link to the linkup so we can all read about how the writing is going!
Pardon me while I dash in and snatch this tag so I can get started on my answers before the November Procrastination hits…
Go, go, go!!! SO excited to see your post! 🥳
