Beautiful People – Darven

In last week's post I was talking about how I’m working on developing my two main character for my novel, More Green than Envy, for this year’s NaNoWriMo. Last week I did a Beautiful People for my elf, Leiden. This week I’m doing the same for my other MC, Darven Morshar. Darven is just about as opposite from Leiden as a person can get. He’s a recluse fellow, not having much to do with people. He gets easily annoyed (especially with overly energetic, talkative people. . .like Leiden *cough*). His life hasn’t been an easy one, making it where he…

Beautiful People – Leiden

NaNoWriMo is approaching, people! Like… almost 3 weeks away approaching! *gasp* Currently I’m working on planning my NaNo novel, More Green than Envy (or trying, it’s kind of been a crazy week). In preparation I’m working on my two main characters. I think I write better when I know my characters pretty well. So, one of the best ways to discover one’s characters is Beautiful People. It always helps so much! Today I’m doing Leiden Irethen. Leiden is a young, male elf with far too much energy. He’s the jester of the group and a just all around fun guy.…

Sunday Night’s Escapade

It was 9:30 at night and even though I was exhausted from a busy day, I got in my head I just head to finish it. Grabbing my laptop and putting on headphones, I snuggled into bed and opened the word document. Just half a chapter more and I would be done. I could do that and then probably be in bed by 12. That wasn’t too bad. 11 o’clock. . . “I’m getting there! This is totally happening!” 11:30. . . “Oh. . .half an hour until midnight? Well, maybe I can still do it. I’ve come this far.”…

Story Snippets

Due to a cold I’ve caught this week, I’m going to cheat a little bit and post some snippets from a few choice books of mine, because I don’t think anyone wants to have to read something I write while I have a cold…it’d be very incoherent, trust me. Then again, I don’t know if anyone wants to read anything I’ve written at any time… But I try to post once a week and I just hated to miss a week, cold or not, so snippets it is. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ More Blue than Sky (Colors of a Dragon Scale Series)    …

100 Cupboards Book Review

Synopsis Lying in bed at night, twelve-year-old Henry York can’t ignore the thumping and scratching he hears on the other side of the attic wall. He scrapes off the plaster and discovers doors—ninety-nine cupboards of all different sizes and shapes. Through one he hears the sound of falling rain. Through another he sees a glowing room—with a man strolling back and forth! Henry and his cousin Henrietta soon understand that these are not just cupboards. They are, in fact, portals to other worlds. Summary 100 Cupboards by N. D. Wilson is the first book in a series of intrigue, adventure,…

NaNo 2012 Highlights

NaNoWriMo 2012 has come to its end. That mad clicking of typewriters has quieted, those overused mugs of coffee have finally found their way to the dishwasher while their users have found their way to bed, the world of the writers his calmed. …Or has it? I think instead, writers are celebrating their great achievements of this fantastic month, basking atop that glorious mountain of satisfaction all us participants have been climbing this month. And what a sight it is from up here! As this month closes, I thought I would give an overview of the goings-on of my 2012…

As Happy as a Smiley Face

Here is a perfect picture of how I felt as of early afternoon of yesterday. Why? BECAUSE I HIT 50K WORDS!!!!!!! I’m just kind of bouncing around with glee. You see, it occurred to me a few days ago that if I kept writing at the rate I was going, I could make it to 50k words on the 10th. Now, if you knew me you’d know I love the number 10. I mean, what’s there not to love? It’s the perfect number. Right? 10 is awesome, there’s just no denying it. So hitting the winning 50k mark on…

5th Day Updates

The 5th day of NaNoWriMo is drawing to its end. I cannot believe the first week of NaNo is almost over! What have I been doing for these first 5 days of NaNo you ask? Let’s see here… Oh yes! I’ve been doing everything in my power to keep my two main characters from killing each other. That’s right. It seems Eldoren and Riana, my NaNo novel’s main characters, have a great desire for the other to not exist. I’ve endured one fight after the other. I’ve spent hours upon hours listening to Eldoren complain…and complain…and complain. *sigh* I’ve pondered…

Colors of a Dragon Scale – My NaNo Series

With the coming of NaNoWriMo in one week (ONE WEEK? GOOD GRACIOUS!), and since I seem to use my blog during November as a NaNo journal of sorts, I thought I would share what I’ve been writing for my NaNo’s. Since my first NaNo in 2010, I’ve been writing a series called The Colors of a Dragon series. I started the first book for my first NaNo, and the second for my second NaNo. And guess what? I’m writing the third book for my third NaNo this year. Shocking, right? I plan on doing this until I’ve finished the series.…
