  Am I the only one who’s in shock that Christmas is NEXT WEEK? And thennn we’ll be zooming straight to the end of 2018. THE END OF 2018??? HOW. Since the year has apparently decided to just go and be nearly over without our permission, that means it’s time for a big ol’ 2018 recap! I’m doing this a little early because I’ve decided after today I’m going on a little hiatus until after New Year’s so I can properly enjoy Christmas and New Year’s. After writing a 129k book in 36 days and keeping up with the blog…

5 Reasons Why I’m Still Doing NaNoWriMo

So…NaNoWriMo will be upon us in a little over a week. *wailing and gnashing of teeth* And I’m feeling a bit of shock/denial/what-the-even-WUT because this will be my NINTH year participating. NINE YEARS??? Do I value my sanity at all? (Not really no…) Why on earth have a brought this torture upon myself for 8 years and am about to do it again??? WELL. That’s what I want to talk about today! Because that’s the thing. NaNo is such a stressful time. I mean, who chooses to write 50k or more words in 30 days during one of the busiest…

Realm Makers 2018 Recap

  I HAVE RETURNED!!! Not only have I returned, but I’ve come back with a gazillion Realm Makers stories to share with you guys. AND I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT IT! Realm Makers, guys… Wow. How do I even describe it? Before I went, I had heard some people say it’s unlike any writers conference out there. The people aren’t there to step on each other and rise to the top. And they’re not there to be ultra professional and stuffy either. No, Realm Makers is one big family of Jesus lovers with a mutual interest in all things geeky.…

Interview with Kate Marie – Creator of The Bubblegum Rebellion

I have some delightful stuff going on with the blog today! My dear friend and fellow writer/blogger Kate from Story and Dark Chocolate has recently launched a new website. But it’s more than that—it’s a revolution. Introducing… THE BUBBLEGUM REBELLION What is The Bubblegum Rebellion? Let me share Kate’s own words about it: “ The Bubblegum Rebellion isn’t about your average revolution. It’s not about anger or defiance. Rather, this rebellion is a dare. A dare to live differently. To rebel harmlessly. To conquer winsomely. The Bubblegum Rebellion is about dancing even when others stop to stare and you let…

NaNoWriMo ‘17 Wrap-Up: In Which “The End” Happens

I don’t know if you’re aware or not but…NOVEMBER IS OVER!!! It’s December! NANOWRIMO IS FINISHED! Oh, and guess what? MY BOOK IS FINISHED TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wrote “The End” on November 30th! And I’ve been dancing and squealing ever since! I was just…shocked I managed to get it done. I really thought I’d have to continue writing through the first few days of December to wrap it up. BUT IT IS DONNNNEEEE!!!!! I honestly think this is the fastest NaNo I’ve ever experienced. It zipped by me so quick, I’m pretty sure it gave me whiplash. Like…what is this??? November…

In Which I Type “The End” {Colors of a Dragon Scale Series}

Yes, I do realize it’s Wednesday and not Monday. But my usual Monday post is late for a very specific reason. You see, I’ve been busy. Doing what, you ask? Oh, nothing important. Just… FINISHING MY NANOWRIMO NOVEL. YES. I FINISHED MORE GOLD THAN SUNLIGHT. WHICH MEANS MY COLORS OF A DRAGON SCALE SERIES IS FINISHED. WHICH MEANS I AM ALL THE HAPPY. WILL I STOP USING CAPSLOCK? NO. OKAY, FINE. Ahem. Let’s try to form some coherent thoughts here. (But no promises.) I finished NaNoWriMo 2016 with a total of 127,040 words—beating my record of most words written in…

Epic Music, Lots of Words, and Giraffes a.k.a My First Week of NaNo

BOOM! And just like that, we have survived the first week of NaNo! (Or am I the only one who has already exploded things in their novel? *cough*) But, GUYS. The first week of NaNo has happened. Are you still alive? Am I still alive? WHO EVEN KNOWS??? I’m pretty sure NaNo’ers are just mad typing zombies for all the month of November. Like, who even needs sleep and a healthy schedule? Pssh. That’s what coffee is for. SO. How is my NaNo going so far?? AWESOMELY. To say I’m having fun is the understatement of the year. I’m bubbling…

A Day in the Life of a Bookshop Keeper

  Yesterday (October 9th) was my one year anniversary of having my first job—a bookshop keeper. A.K.A the best job EVER. Last year I blogged about how I got the job, if you’re feeling like nosy little dragons. But today I’ve got something extra special planned. In celebration of my anniversary and upon the suggestion of the brilliant Deborah (thank you, Deborah!), I am going to share what it’s like to work in a secondhand bookshop. I shall give you a tour of the adorable place, take you through some of my bookshop duties, and give few little bookshop-life snippets.…

In Which I (temporarily) Say Fare Thee Well to Editing

  Starting in January, I raised my supply of coffee and delved into *cue dramatic music* EDITING. Bum bum BUMMMM.* *You know this is an accurate response. Last year I turned my wee 20k word Beauty and the Beast novella, Burning Thorns, into a full out 84k novel. I’ve been meaning to write a Beauty and the Beast retelling since, like, the beginning of time or so. I absolutely adore retellings, I’m a total fairytale nerd, and B&B is my favorite fairytale. Obviously it was going to happen eventually. Honestly, I’m shocked I’ve only just now gotten around to it.…

That Time I Got Over 100 Books in Two Weeks

So things happened in April. Delightful things. And by that I mean BOOKISH things. (What else would be delightful? Books = Life. Duh.) You see, our library had a sale to which I obviously had to attend. . .three times. It took place for the whole second week in April, and each day the price on the books got lower and lower to the point that they were practically giving them away. As my dad said, I was worse than a kid at a candy store. Our library is pretty small, so I honestly wasn’t expecting much. But then I…
