  Visit Sky @ Further Up & Further In or Cait @ Paperfuryto get the questions and join up! *soars down from atop a dragon’s back and does a backflip to the floor* *actually just stumbles in blinking and blurry eyed* I HAVE RETURNED.   I know you did. First of all, HAPPY 2017!!!!! Can you believe it’s the new year? (Well, maybe you can since we’re already a month in but my brain is slow, so humor me.) I am officially back from my hiatus and happy to post my very first post of 2017! Why yes, it is…

January Hiatus Notice

The title maaaay have given it away. But just in case… I’m going on hiatus. After much hemming and hawing, I finally decided to give in and allow myself a break. (Yes, I have to force myself to rest, it’s a problem.) You see, I’ve been blogging every. single. week. for the past 4 years. My 2013 New Year’s goal was to write a post weekly and…I just stuck with it. I’ve literally never missed a week. So, on the one hand, my OCD self wants to see how long I can keep this up. But my exhausted brain is…

A Time of Peace

Well, will you look at that, Christmas is just a week away. If you’re like me, it feels like 2016 just started. And yet, here we are at the end of it, about to celebrate Christmas. How did that happen??? Despite the year breaking speed limits, it was, in fact, 365 days (wait, this was a leap year, so 366?). And, well, a lot can happen in 366 days. A lot of heartbreak, a lot of joy, a lot of change. Each year brings something new—good and bad. And, let’s face it, life can be stressful. That’s why I love…

In Which I Type “The End” {Colors of a Dragon Scale Series}

Yes, I do realize it’s Wednesday and not Monday. But my usual Monday post is late for a very specific reason. You see, I’ve been busy. Doing what, you ask? Oh, nothing important. Just… FINISHING MY NANOWRIMO NOVEL. YES. I FINISHED MORE GOLD THAN SUNLIGHT. WHICH MEANS MY COLORS OF A DRAGON SCALE SERIES IS FINISHED. WHICH MEANS I AM ALL THE HAPPY. WILL I STOP USING CAPSLOCK? NO. OKAY, FINE. Ahem. Let’s try to form some coherent thoughts here. (But no promises.) I finished NaNoWriMo 2016 with a total of 127,040 words—beating my record of most words written in…

NaNoWriMo Week Four: 100k Words, So Much Turkey, and Benedict Cumberbatch

  Oh, what is that I see? *squints* It looks like a…finish line? It couldn’t be. But maybe it is because….because…IT’S THE LAST DAYS OF NANO. NANO ENDS IN 3 DAYS. 3 DAAAAYS. Just think. Thursday morning you will open your eyes and it will be DECEMBER 1ST. No more NaNoWriMo! Unfortunately…I’ll probably still be pounding at my keyboard like a mad octopus (not sure why octopuses would be mad at keyboards but…?) on December 1st. And the few days thereafter. Because…my novel is not done. In fact, I have 11 chapters to go, and seem to only be writing…

NaNoWriMo Week Three: Explosions, Frozen Fingers, and Christmas Decorations

WE. ARE. ON. WEEK. FOUR. OF. NANOWRIMO. WEEK FOUR. AND ONLY 10 DAYS LEFT. WE’RE LITERALLY NEARING THE END OF THE MONTH PEOPLE. It’s a little shocking, to be honest. Didn’t this month just start???? HOW ARE WE PAST THE HALFWAY POINT? I had an absolutely fantastic Week Three myself! Both on the writing front and with lifely things. *le gasp* Am I saying I actually did LIFE stuff this week? That happens during NaNoWriMo?? Bwahaha! Of course not. What an absurd thought. I just happened to glance over the top of my screen and accidentally take note of the…

Epic Music, Lots of Words, and Giraffes a.k.a My First Week of NaNo

BOOM! And just like that, we have survived the first week of NaNo! (Or am I the only one who has already exploded things in their novel? *cough*) But, GUYS. The first week of NaNo has happened. Are you still alive? Am I still alive? WHO EVEN KNOWS??? I’m pretty sure NaNo’ers are just mad typing zombies for all the month of November. Like, who even needs sleep and a healthy schedule? Pssh. That’s what coffee is for. SO. How is my NaNo going so far?? AWESOMELY. To say I’m having fun is the understatement of the year. I’m bubbling…

Ten (perfectly logical) Reasons To Do NaNoWriMo

You may have noticed by the explosion of tweets and blog posts and writers screaming from the rooftops (from fear or excitement, not even we know) that NANOWRIMO IS COMING. I can hear you groaning, “Not more about NaNo. Are these people ever going to stop?” Now, now, before you run away in fear of catching the insanity, I have 10 perfectly logical reasons why YOU should join in on the craziness as well. Yes, you!   1.) COFFEE TIME ALL THE TIME Feeling guilty about that 5th cup of coffee you’re chugging down? Well, during NaNo, THERE IS NO…

A Day in the Life of a Bookshop Keeper

  Yesterday (October 9th) was my one year anniversary of having my first job—a bookshop keeper. A.K.A the best job EVER. Last year I blogged about how I got the job, if you’re feeling like nosy little dragons. But today I’ve got something extra special planned. In celebration of my anniversary and upon the suggestion of the brilliant Deborah (thank you, Deborah!), I am going to share what it’s like to work in a secondhand bookshop. I shall give you a tour of the adorable place, take you through some of my bookshop duties, and give few little bookshop-life snippets.…

The Beginning of The End – NaNo, Dragons, and Nostalgia

(No, this is not a tragic post. I just like being dramatic. *grins*) October is heeere!!! The beginning of my favorite season. But while most people are out rolling in the fallen leaves and consuming pumpkin flavored eeeverything, I’m planning on hunkering down in front of my laptop with a cup of coffee (sorry pumpkin lovers, it’s not my thing. Shameful I know!). Why? BECAUSE IT’S MY FAVORITE SEASON. Oh, you thought I was talking about fall? Noooo. I’m talking NANOWRIMO SEASON. Because the last three months of the year are called: PreNaNober, NaNober, and PostNaNober. Right??? Psh. What else…
