Embarking on (not quite) Camp

Oh, hello there! Excuse the mess. *scoops up laptop, piles of paper, pens, and pencils and tosses them in a suitcase* I’m headed off to camp you see, and trying to get ready. It’s a month long camp that starts tomorrow. But don’t worry, I have no intention of stepping out of the house to get there. That’s right. This is no ordinary camp. It’s a camp for my imagination. Camp NaNoWriMo!!! Yep, yep, yep. I’m jumping on the CampNaNo bus and headed off to the trail of creativity for the month of April. For those of you who don’t…

“I don’t know who I am.”

Isn’t it funny how we can go almost our whole lives thinking we dislike something, only to discover we like it quite a lot? For 20 years of my life I thought I didn’t like cheesecake. Then one day I gave it a shot. Guess what? I now sing ballads with my little sis about our love for cheesecake. Give me a slice and you’ll have a very happy Christine. I tend to do this a lot in life. A few years ago, if you asked me do I like sci-fi, I would have made a face and given you…

Friendly Advice {February’s Chatterbox}

Happy Wednesday! Today I’m participating in a delightful linkup hosted by Rachel Heffington at her just as delightful blog The Inkpen Authoress. Do go check it out. She just released her first book, Fly Away Home, and it looks absolutely scrumptious. I’m dying to get my hands on it. Anywho, this linkup is called Chatterbox in which each month she gives a topic for you to create a conversation between your characters revolving around said topic. (Or at least I think this is how this thing works, I’m new to it, so hopefully I’m doing it right.) This month’s topic…

Turning Goals into Reality

January, what an exciting month! A time for new beginnings, promises to live better, create lists, get organized. That time of making resolutions and embracing them. Well, my January has been full of recovering from Christmas, having the time of my life out of town at a friend’s house, and then coming home to the flu. Not much of a chance for making those resolutions and turning them into reality. But, thankfully, the flu has left our household and life is settling back into normality. And though January is almost behind us, it’s never too late to make those New…

Writing Lessons of 2013

2014 comes upon us in a few hours. . . .Wait. WHAT. 2014 isn’t even a day away?!?!?! 2013 has broken the “fastest year of my life” record, hands down. These past few years have been turned up to hyperdrive, but 2013 broke the scale. In fact, every time I write down the date I have to peek at a calendar to make absolute sure it really is 2013, because my hands are always trying to put 2012. Are we sure it’s not 2012 still? How can I possibly adjust to 2014 when I haven’t even gotten used to it…

In Which Christine’s Sanity Has Yet to Return

There are four moments in life that spark the most inspiration: Showering, brushing your teeth, washing dishes, and trying to get to sleep. These are the moments where your head is vrooming like an eight-lane interstate with ideas flying by so fast and so many you can hardly reach them quick enough before the next one is zooming across your brain. Or is that just me? Such a moment occurred a week ago while I was brushing my teeth before bed. An idea sparked, and I foolishly snagged it. Now I can’t seem to shake it. You see, ever since…

More Green than Envy Snippets

How has everyone’s December been so far? Don’t you just love December! I thought since basically for two months or so now I’ve been rattling on about nothing but NaNoWriMo and More Green than Envy, the novel I wrote for it, I should post some snippets from it now. Maybe. . . Oh, sure! Why not? So, without further ado. . . Snippets! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Leiden began pacing back and forth. His chains clattered loudly as they rubbed across the rough stone ground. Darven clenched his teeth together. "Will you just sit down?" he snapped. "Is it possible for you to…

The Escapades of NaNo 2013

It’s December. IT’S DECEMBER!!! Can you believe it? Because, frankly, I can’t. I’m kind of in shock that we’re here at the last month of the year. I love December though. Cool days, the thrill of one year ending and another soon to begin, CHRISTMAS—December has all sorts of exciting things revolving around it. Including. . . THE END OF NANOWRIMO. That’s right, NaNoWrioMo 2013 has officially ENDED. This has to be the fastest NaNo in history. Although, this whole year has been zooming by like a ninja! To choose one word for this NaNo I think I’d have to…

Over the Cliff and Through the Word Counters to NaNo Land We Go

Once Upon a Time. . . I lost my mind. 100,000 words were hit today. Hit my life right off a cliff. My sanity was already down there, of course. Sometimes I lean over the cliff and wave at them fondly. Then I go back to writing. Because I’m not finished yet! I made my goal of doing a double NaNo, but I also had a goal of writing at least 2k words every single day of the month. And I’ve got 9 more days of that. But now it’s not a matter of getting the words, instead it’s just…

Something Makes Me Think I Should Be Writing

We have made it, people! We have come to the halfway point. Half of NaNoWriMo is behind us! By this time, a lot of us are experiencing the “halfway point blues”. The thought that we still have a whole other half of a month to go is a bit overwhelming. Let’s not look at it that way though. Instead, we should be saying we only have half a month left! We should be looking at all the words we’ve already written, thinking of all the accomplishments we have made. Just half a month left! Don’t give up! Write those beautiful…
