The Silmaril Awards 2020 Voting: Most Mischievous Imp

Welcome to round 2 of the Silmaril Awards! The nominations have been cast, the seconds have been called and counted, and now it’s time for the next vital task: VOTING!

Last week everyone rallied around their favorite fantasy characters and nominated and seconded such a vast array of interesting people and creatures alike! I don’t know about you, but I had an absolute blast in all the comments section discussing all things fantasy characters—my favorite topic! (But we won’t talk about how my TBR has positively exploded.)

Over the course of 5 days, 47 Mischievous Imps were nominated to win one of the coveted silmarils. That’s FORTY. SEVEN. pranksters, ne’er-do-wellers, rascally rogues, scalawags, cheesy jokesters, and troublemakers IN MY HOUSE, GUYS. Do I even have a house anymore? Do I have sanity anymore? WHO CAN KNOW. I’ve just been living off coffee and sound-reducing headphones for the past week.

Although I have acquired very interesting tidbits on causing Professional Mischief, the perfect timing to tell a joke, and how to hold a poker face. So it hasn’t been a wasted week. I have all sorts of new tools in my impish toolbox to use. *rubs hands and cackles*

AHEM. Never mind me over here. I’m perfectly behaved. *polishes halo*

ANYWHO.

It is time to reveal which five nominees got the most seconds and made it to the finals!

Which also means I get to send everyone else home! Hallelujah! Although I will miss all the mad tea parties, the flying lessons from Tinker Bell, Walter Foley’s cheesy jokes, and the nonsensical chats with the Cheshire Cat, amongst other things. What can I say, I like a good party. Even if my last shred of sanity is gone but pffft, who needs that anyway?

Top Five Nominees

The top 5 Most Mischievous Imp finalists are…

  • Julio (Crockett & Crane series by Kyle Robert Shultz)

Julio Rafael Lorenzo Velazquez Narvaez Sandoval Castillo Aquino or, ya know, simply “Julio” is a young(ish??? not really?) dragon of the Afterverse. Though most of the time he sticks to his softhearted human form, he can still be pretty fearsome in his natural dragon state. But, at his heart, Julio is thoughtful, loyal to his friends, and most definitely an imp. Though Julio’s impish side is slightly more innocent than some, he can still cause mischief, such as wearing the sheriff’s badge just to annoy him or slipping out of jail by simply melting the bars with his fire. But his little pranks just make him that much more lovable.

  • Kalmar “Tink” Wingfeather (The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson)

The middle Wingfeather child, Kalmar, or “Tink” as he often prefers to be called, is a high-spirited, often reckless boy. A bit sloppy and fearless, he is one to jump straight into danger without thinking about it first…and possibly regretting it later. He’s also not one for formality, which is why he asks to be called Tink. I mean, pffft. One can’t go around with a big, fancy name all the time. That’s just silliness. Impulsive and informal is absolutely the way to go. Because if you can’t goof off now and again, what’s the point in living?

  • Leo Valdez (Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan)

Leo Valdez, son of Hephaestus, is easily described as an imp in every form. This demi-god is known for his easygoing and utterly mischievous nature, constantly getting in trouble with his pranks, not to mention flirting with everyone and sharing all sorts of jokes (that may or may not be funny). But at his core he is an intelligent, kind, loyal guy, with much more to him than what first meets the eye.

  • Twinkle (House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones)

It is easy to be charmed by this lisping, sparkly blue-eyed, golden-headed child, but don’t be fooled! There is much more to Twinkle than his endearing appearance. Sophie will tell you right away that his angelic looks is nothing more than a ruse, and he’s all about harebrained schemes and driving Sophie up the wall. His form of “help”, though usually successful in the end, causes a whole lotta confusion and frustration for the good and bad guys alike. I mean, he has to have some fun along the way, right?

  • Nidawi the Everblooming (Shadow Hand by Anne Elisabeth Stengl)

With her shifting moods, her Lioness friend, and her righteous anger, Nidawi is a force. Her impish side is a bit more fierce, as she is of the untamable faerie kind. Her most noticeable trait is her ability to change her age depending on her mood. Sometimes a frightened, lost child, sometimes a beautiful woman, sometimes a wise elderly—it is hard to pinpoint what this enigmatic faerie will do next. Like demand an unsuspecting man wandering through the forest to marry her. Strange, wild, unpredictable, and certainly mischievous in her own right, she is certainly an intriguing character!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to find a way to send 42 imps back home. This is going to involve a lot of shiny objects and bribes. *sigh*

At least my house will be much quieter now that I’m hosting just five characters. Although I never know what Nidawi is up to…and I’m having to keep on eye on Julio to make sure he doesn’t burn the curtains…and it sounds like Leo and Tink have banded together and are tinkering with something in the hall closet…and what is that spell Twinkle is concocting in the corner? Why is it smoking?

Maybe not so quiet after all. >.>

Voting Form

While I’m busy putting my house back together, I have a task for you: VOTING!

This is a crucial stage, as it determines who goes home with a silmaril! But yes, yes I do understand it’s also HARD. At least during nominations we could nominate and second tons of characters. For this round we can only choose one for each category. Feel free to have an existential crisis or two, I’ll be right there with you.

Head to THIS LINK to find the voting form!

Voting ends Friday, September 11 at Midnight CST, so do be sure to make your choices before then!

NOTE: You do not have to go to each blog to vote. Each category is conveniently placed all together in the single voting form. BUT you should still totally go to everyone’s blogs to be introduced to all the top nominees in each category!

[VOTING IS CLOSED]

That was fun!! And by fun, I mean…how was I supposed to vote between Wingfeather Saga and Goldstone Wood and the Afterverse!?!? (Sorry, WS and A, but GW took a lot of the wins)….

I’m just excited to see who wins amongst these champs!

Oh my GOODNESS. This has literally been the most fun I’ve had blogging in a super long time. 🤣 And eep! I am SO jealous that you got to have the Cheshire Cat in your house! The villains have been absolutely delightful (*cough*someonepleasehelpme*cough*), but none of them can compare to CHESS.

Also also! Are we allowed to vote, too? Because I REAAAAAALLY wanna vote. 🤣

Good luck putting your house back together! Goodness knows I’m gonna need some repairs once this whole thing is over… Maybe I can enlist Brother’s help…?

    I just finished voting!

If you need help getting the rascals out of you house, just tell them I baked more cookies and have an untended pile of wizzpoppers, kazoos, whoopie cushions and more! XD

Can’t wait to see who wins! This past week was SO much fun!!!

Dare I suggest you decide such a monumental choice by flipping a coin? XD

I had trouble deciding in almost every category, so I just went with my first pick and didn’t let myself hesitate… there was most definitely no crisis that left me crying in the corner with both characters staring me down…. help…. they’re still glaring at me without the decency to give me a tissue. XD

I haven’t voted yet, because I want to read all the posts first! But I hope that things calm down for you a bit. I’ll send over some faithful friends to help you clean up… I talked to them about it and they’re eager to assist in any way they can 🙂

BUT ACK! From the looks of things, this is going to be the toughest ballot YET! How can I choose between Afterverse, Wingfeather, and Goldstone Wood?!?!??! They seem to have SWEPT the nominations this year, and that’s awesome… but also makes everything heartwrenchingly DIFFICULT!

Sound-proof headphones sounds like an EXCELLENT idea with almost 50 imps running around, my goodness.

I’m so TORN between Nidawi and Julio, though! *wails* Also, wow, all three Wingfeather siblings made it to the voting round! It’s high time I read that series…

I know none of these imps… but obviously I need to read House of Many Ways if it’s a sequel to Howl’s Moving Castle!
