July Hiatus Notice

Hello, dear elflings! I come to you on this random Wednesday to let you know I’m going on a hiatus for the month of July.

For the past 3 years I’ve made a habit of going on a posting hiatus during July and, hey, why break tradition? Okay, okay actually, I’ve discovered stepping back from things here at the middle of the year is a fantastic way to rest up from the first half of the year and get all refueled to tackle the second half.

10/10 Recommend

I know I’ve not talked much (if any?) about my writing and what I’ve been up to this year. I’ve discovered there’s a lot less pressure and more freedom in working on things without announcing it to the world (though I do like that peer pressure a lot of the time!). But, to sum it up, I’ve been heavy at work with some rewrites. And I am SO CLOSE to being finished. It’s gone well but…I’m tired. Between that, trying to keep on top of social media and everything else, and life being its life-y self, I think I could use some good old fashioned lazy fun.

First and foremost, I want to finish these rewrites (which I think I can do within a few days here! *squeaks*), and then I have every intention of using July for reading and movie marathons and video games and video chats with friends and probably eating way too many sweets and basically doing everything I can to rest and refuel.

I talked about this extensively back in February in THIS POST, but a big lesson God worked through me last year is that IT IS OKAY TO HAVE FUN. It is perfectly acceptable to be lazy sometimes and do things that bring you joy. My workaholic self, who digs my heels against activities that aren’t productive, struggled to learn that lesson, but bit by bit I’ve been getting better. And as I’ve allowed myself more moments of fun and relaxation, I’ve found my productivity doesn’t suffer AT ALL. Instead, I’m more creative and energized.

God didn’t make us machines. No, we shouldn’t be lazy all the time, but we shouldn’t work ourselves to the point of exhaustion and depression. It’s all in the balance, friends.

Having fun and resting is not a sin.

In fact, God CALLS us to rest and find joy. I am still very much learning this lesson, but I am so grateful to our loving Father for helping me find that balance.

THUS. I won’t be posting here until August 9th probably? I have a few more posts to share on Instagram this coming week, but then I’ll be taking a break there until August as well. I’ll also most likely be far quieter. I’m not disappearing completely by any means, mostly just taking a break from posting things, but I’m not going to hold myself strict on keeping up with comments and emails and DMs and other people’s posts and whatnot either.

(We’re gonna pretend I’m capable of setting my laptop and phone aside now and again. *cough, cough*)

Basically, if I do vanish for long lengths of time…

#NotDead

So I am off to go find some of that glorious rest and joy. But I shall absolutely be back sometime in August, hopefully much more energized and ready to take on the rest of 2021.

Have a blessed July, friends!

Before I go, I want to know: What are your plans for July? Any fun summer things going on? What do you love to do during the summer? And what’s your favorite activity to rest and refuel? I honest to goodness need ideas because sometimes I don’t even know what to do when I have that rare thing called “Free Time”. *sheepish grin* So toss me your suggestions!

Oh hey, I’m taking a July hiatus, too! (Actually, shh, don’t tell anyone…I’m not announcing it until the 2nd. ;)) I’m planning on doing Camp NaNo, working, rereading a whole lot of my favorite books, and packing/prepping for college. (College. How am I old enough to be going to college? *dies*.)

Have a HAPPY HIATUS Christine!!! Taking breaks is DEFINITELY a good thing to do every now and then! I might end up taking a hiatus during July too, but mainly cause I’ll be doing school again and that can be kinda stressful at the beginning (yeah, we start back at a slightly strange time…don’t ask. #HomeschoolingLife) 😂 But I hope you have an AWESOME time having fun and relaxing!!! (Also that’s so exciting how you’re almost done with your rewrites! You can do it, girl!! *waves pom poms*) Can’t wait to see you back in August!!! 😀 ❤️

Definitely take this time to rest and recharge! Thank you for saying that having fun is not a sin, as I’m a workaholic too and often forget that. XD

I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo in July and am starting a new novel for it. My goal is 50k words. Besides writing, I’ll be blogging (I’ve been on hiatus this month and am so excited to get back to posting). I’m also gonna hang out at the pool with my friends. Around the 15th, my dad and I will be heading to Washington state to visit Grandpa. I haven’t seen him since December 2020, so I can’t wait for the trip!

Have an awesome break! You deserve it.

Happy “hiatusing”! XD I hope to take a break in a few months, too. I miiiiight, do some sort of Camp NaNo this July (probably just planning for November NaNo, which is what I usually do then) but other than that I plan on just working. And sleeping. XD

Have an excellent, wonderful hiatus!

This summer, I’m attempting Camp NaNo, doing the ACT test 😒, and learning to drive.

So, you need ideas? Some of my favorite things are:
• Going to the lake
• playing at the park
• blowing bubbles
• drawing with sidewalk chalk and some music
• writing outside
• going out for ice cream/ frozen custard
• staying up late and looking at the night sky
• random trips to town with a friend
• falling into a book
• watch Lilo and Stitch, or some other summer-y movie
• making popsicles out of lemonade

Hi Christine! How are you? I just read your previous post on Burning Thorns. It looks amazing and I love the snippets and beautiful graphics!

Ah, my plans for July are to finish edits on a MG short story that I hope to self-publish soon. As for what I like to do on my free time, well I do like crafting (i.e journaling, needle-felting, etc.)

I hope you get a lot of rest on your hiatus! I’ll be praying for you! 🙂

I took my hiatus in June because: all the traveling! It was a blast, and I really enjoyed being away from my computer for long stretches of time.

Let’s see… fun things to do… reading (of course), swimming (always a good summer activity), find a nice creek and go wading down it and pretend you’re on an adventure (we will be doing a lot of that this month because it’s finally warm enough to do so!), hiking (all the nature is good), reading (did I say that already?!), watching good movies, picnics, climb a tree, run through the sprinkler, eat popsicles, try something new in the kitchen…

Enjoy your July!!!

Hey, a little late here (though what else is new haha 🤪) but I hope you have a great hiatus and a happy summer! And I feel you in feeling guilty for being “lazy” especially when you live with people who always seem to keep going without needing to stop EVER while you need a break. *wince* The struggle is real.

I’ll be working on edits/rewrites of my second book which I should finish in July (eep!) plus I’m also going to be working on a short story from the same series/world to submit into an anthology! Fingers crossed I can do this as my short stories don’t always turn out the greatest… Then I MIGHT attempt starting the third book in my trilogy, but the short story will take first dibs, so we’ll see…

Congrats on finishing your rewrites too! So exciting!!!!!

I hope you have a fantastic hiatus! Rest and recharging is so important (especially for us creatives, if I may be so bold as to say so). I look forward to your return in August! <3

I hope you had a wonderful hiatus (cause I’m so late in reading this XD)! I unofficially, accidentally, took a break in July on my little corner of the internet but that is just as good as a intentional one. (I had two scheduled posts during last month but they don’t count cause they were scheduled, which I don’t usually do, and they were commitments as well.) I really wasn’t feeling up to blogging and it’s better to do nothing than do posts I don’t care for. It was odd though that this happened because July happened to be the best month of this year. *shrugs* Hopefully I will be back to blogging normally again cause I miss it.
Can’t wait to see your posts again soon! <3 <3 <3
