Beautiful People – Rose {May 2016}

Yes, I am quite late to the party for this month’s Beautiful People. As in. . .the linkup closes in less than two days. In my defense, I’ve had quite a few exciting things that went on the blog this month. Annnd I’m always late for BP. But I do like to make excuses every now and again. I’m quite good at it. ANYWHO. I am here now with a BP post and very excited! April did not have BP due to Sky and Cait having lifely stuff going on (don’t worry, girls, I understand!). But it is back this…

Book Tour: Paper Crowns by Mirriam Neal

I have utterly thrilling news! I’m talking run around the house squealing and jumping up and down news. One of my absolute favorite writers on this planet HAS A BOOK PUBLISHED. Not just a book, but one of the most delightful books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. Over the past couple of years, I’ve gotten to know the amazing Mirriam Neal through my dear writing group. I was given the complete honor of reading her novel, Paper Crowns, in its earlier stages, and I can honestly say I’ve never read a book with such whimsy and beauty. Not…

What I Learned from The Lunar Chronicles

For the last couple months I’ve been enjoying a book series, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. And by “enjoying” I mean flailing and screaming and crying and fangirling and all around obsessing. It has kind of been my world. As I writer, my brain automatically soaks in writing lessons while reading. Subconsciously, I’m constantly asking myself questions as I read like, “Why do I love this part so much?” “Why does this feel slow?” “That was such a good scene, what type of wording was used?” It’s a curse of the writer, we can’t help it. So since I…

Beautiful People – Larke {March 2016}

It’s time for me to join up with Beautiful People again! *confetti* If you haven’t yet (which most of you probably have, I’m always behind), do leap or skip or hop or jump (or walk, that’s fine, too) over to Sky's post or Cait's to join in yourself. We’ve had a lot of awesome editions these past few months, including Beautiful Books and last month’s Valentine’s edition, but this go round there’s no special edition. Just ten questions to interrogate our characters with and get our brains whirring. And, honestly, I’m quite excited about it. I love all the fun…

Lovely Books – Villains

Happy Leap Day, everyone! There’s something exciting knowing we have a whole extra day to be productive, have fun, or do whatever we like! Or is that just me? Time is a mischievous thing and likes to speed up or hide or just skip around like a lunatic, so adding a day to the year makes me feel as though, for just a moment, time has slowed and given us a moment to breathe. If you’re at a loss on how to spend your time this extra day (or the rest of it since it’s almost over now, whoops), Katie…

Lovely Books – Couples

I have returned for the second edition of Lovely Books, a linkup created by one of my favoritest people in the world, Tracey @ Adventure Awaits. If you missed it, each Saturday in February she’s posting a new edition centered all around those glorious things we call books. She’s leaving the linkup open until March 5th, and you can join in all the editions or just a few, or even combine them. So get on over to her blog and check it out! I mean, PEOPLES. It’s about books. What more do you need? Obviously I’m fashionably late, that’s how…

Lovely Books – Covers and Titles

Hello, dear readers! Did everyone have a nice Valentine’s yesterday? (Admittedly, I kept forgetting yesterday was Valentine’s Day. . . *cough, cough, cough* But still.) Fabulous things are going down in my blog circle at the moment! One of my dearest internet buddies Tracey is hosting a perfectly drool-worthy linkup for the whole month of February. Why is it drool-worthy, you may ask? Because it’s about BOOKS! Lovely Books features, you guessed it, lovely books! Every Saturday of February Tracey is putting up a new edition. The linkup for each one is opened until March 5th so there’s plenty of…

Beautiful Books #3 – Where Editing Hopefully Occurs

The third and final round of Beautiful Books is here! During the NaNoWriMo season, our dear hosts Sky and Cait take a slight break from their Beautiful People linkup to focus on our novels instead of characters. This month, with NaNo over and so many fresh new first drafts all written and ready for their time to shine, they’re focusing on that ever elusive thing called. . . *shifty eyes* editing. Who else but Sky and Cait can get us pumped over editing, am I right? You can link on up over at Sky's post or Cait. And, don’t forget,…

Retelling Stories Vs. Changing Stories

A week ago I went to the theaters to see the new Pan movie with a tinge of excitement and a bucket-load of wariness. On the one hand, COOL PETER PAN THINGS; on the other hand, Peter Pan movie that looks nothing like Peter Pan. You see my problem here? You should know, I’m a diehard Peter Pan fan. I loved Peter Pan before I even heard of Tolkien and Lord of the Rings and the like. Peter Pan was one of the first things to introduce me to fairies and fantasy lands. Neverland is like my childhood home. So…

The Bookshelf Tag

So lately (oh, who am I kidding? Since I started blogging) I’ve been the worst about not doing tags. I LOVE being tagged and am always so thrilled and honored when people pass them my way, and yet half the time I forget about them and never do them. I’m a horrible person, I am! It’s not ingratitude, it’s just a bad memory and laziness. Horrid. With that said, there was one tag I promised myself I was absolutely not going to forget and would do. It’s a tag all about my bookshelf and the books thereon. How could I…
